NEW YORK — L'Oréal USA has introduced a new app for owners of a device that allows them to use tablet-like apps on television through an Internet connection.

The cosmetics maker announced the launch of OnBeauty, which it created under a partnership with Roku and Brightline. Roku created the app for users of connected TV, or CTV, and L'Oréal said OnBeauty would be the go-to beauty hub for CTV users. The app will feature a majority of L'Oréal USA's brands.

BALTIMORE — Lupin has launched a generic drug for treating HIV, following its victory in a patent-infringement suit in federal court, the Indian drug maker said Wednesday.

Lupin's U.S. subsidiary launched its generic version of ViiV Healthcare's Trizivir (abacavir sulfate; lamivudine; zidovudine) tablets in the 300-mg/150-mg/300-mg strength. The launch follows a ruling by the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware that the drug did not infringe on Viiv's patent.

Mylan has acquired rights to an experimental respiratory drug made by Pfizer, Mylan said.

PITTSBURGH — Mylan has acquired rights to an experimental respiratory drug made by Pfizer, Mylan said Wednesday.

The drug maker said it had bought exclusive worldwide development, manufacturing and commercialization rights to the drug, which was not named, but was described as a long-acting muscarinic antagonist about to enter phase-2b, or mid-stage, clinical trials. Mylan said it would develop the drug into combination therapies and that they would use a multidose dry powder inhaler technology, also licensed from Pfizer.

Mylan, whose Mylan Specialty division makes the EpiPen injector pen for severe allergic reactions, known as anaphylaxis, announced the winners of the Raise Your Hand for Anaphylaxis Awareness competition, for which it hired actress Julie Bowen as a celebrity spokeswoman.

The two products, Intensive Fairness Serum and Intensive Fairness Cream, use cellular-level technology and also contain a ultraviolet light blocker with an increased SPF 50 formula.

DUBLIN — Perrigo has finalized its acquisition of Elan Corp., Perrigo said Wednesday.

The Michigan-based maker of branded and generic prescription and OTC drugs announced last week that the Irish High Court had approved its $8.6 billion deal to buy Ireland-based Elan, the last regulatory hurdle it had to clear before finalizing the deal, which it announced in July.

NEW YORK — Midwestern supermarket chain Hy-Vee will renovate 50 of its stores to include casual dining and cocktails, according to published reports.

The Kansas City, Mo., Star reported that locally based engineering and construction firm Burns & McDonnell had received a $20 million contract from the West Des Moines, Iowa-based chain to build Market Grille and Market Café restaurants in the stores.

MARSHFIELD, Wis. — Respiratory Syncytial Virus appears to cause milder illness than influenza in adults age 50 or older, researchers at Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation announced Wednesday.

The study, published online in Clinical Infectious Diseases, also shows RSV is a common cause of respiratory illness in older adults and that the chance of infection increases with age.

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Amneal Pharmaceuticals has launched a new treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease under a partnership with a South Korean drug maker.

Amneal announced Tuesday the launch of esomeprazole strontium delayed-release capsules in the 49.3-mg strength, which it is marketing in the United States under a contract with Hanmi Pharmaceutical Co. The drug is expected to begin shipping Wednesday in 30-count bottles.

PEAPACK, N.J. — Greenstone has launched a version of a drug used to treat fungal infections, the company said.

Greenstone, the generics subsidiary of Pfizer, announced the introduction of voriconazole for oral suspension, an authorized generic version of Pfizer's Vfend. Authorized generics are branded drugs sold at a discount under their generic names.

Greenstone is selling the drug in the 40 mg-per-milliliter strength. Vfend had sales of about $17.1 million during the 12-month period that ended in June, according to IMS Health.

NEW YORK — Three organizations will receive part of $1.3 million in funding that German drug maker Merck KGaA and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society are distributing for MS research.

EMD Serono, the name the Merck KGaA uses in the United States to avoid confusion with U.S.-based Merck & Co., and the National MS Society said the money will help encourage early-stage drug discovery for the autoimmune disease.

PITTSBURGH — Mylan and a partnering company will be able to sell a generic version of a cancer drug starting in summer 2015, under a court settlement announced Tuesday.

Mylan said that it and Banner Pharmacaps had reached a settlement agreement with Eisai and a subsidiary of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International to resolve a lawsuit filed over their generic version of Targretin (bexarotene) capsules in the 75-mg strength. The drug is used to treat certain forms of T-cell lymphoma.
