ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — Unilever has introduced a new line of Axe brand facial grooming products that includes razors offered under a partnership with Schick and Philips Norelco, the company said Tuesday.

The new Axe co-branded shaving product lines will be available at Walmart and on the retailer's website and includes Axe Schick Razors and the Axe Philips Norelco electric shaver range, featuring a shave-and-groom kit with interchangeable heads.

A new strain of the bacterium that causes whooping cough immune to vaccines may have appeared in the United States, according to a brief published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

NEW YORK — A new strain of the bacterium that causes whooping cough immune to vaccines may have appeared in the United States, according to a brief published Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The brief, filed by officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health authorities, reported that a strain of Bordetella pertussis had been reported in Japan, France and Finland and may have appeared in Philadelphia, where 12 children were hospitalized between 2011 and 2012.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a regulatory approval application from Elite Pharmaceuticals for an opioid painkiller, the drug maker said Wednesday.

NORTHVALE, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a regulatory approval application from Elite Pharmaceuticals for an opioid painkiller, the drug maker said Wednesday.

Elite announced the FDA approval of its supplemental application for the manufacture and packaging of naltrexone hydrochloride tablets in the 50-mg strength. The company said the approval would allow it to start manufacturing and packaging the drug for its sales and marketing partner, Mikah Pharma, from which it bought rights to the drug in September 2010.

PRINCETON, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic antibiotic made by Sandoz, the drug maker said Wednesday.

Sandoz, the generics arm of Swiss drug maker Novartis, announced the approval and launch of clindamycin in 5% dextrose in minibag form, the first generic version of Pfizer's Cleocin Phosphate in Dextrose 5%.

Sales of the branded version were $52.2 million in 2012, according to IMS Health.

INDIANAPOLIS — Adults living with diabetes in the United States reported highest satisfaction using Roche Diabetes Care's Accu-Chek products compared with other blood-glucose-meter manufacturers, according to the inaugural J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Blood Glucose Meter Satisfaction Study released Tuesday. 

The study gathered responses from 2,681 current meter users with type 1 and 2 diabetes in the U.S. to determine customer satisfaction across six factors: performance; ease of use; design; features; cost of test strips; and training.

CINCINNATI — Local Kroger stores will discontinue doubling coupons and will instead lower prices on about 3,500 items, according to a report published in the Business Courier last week. The new everyday lower prices and corresponding shelf tags were rolled out on Monday. 

Kroger will cease doubling coupons up to 50 cents by March and the change is only taking place across the Cincinnati/Dayton division.

The drug channel has seen the most erosion in merchandising support, with declines in 60% of the categories within the channel in 2012.
