99 Cents Only Stores on Tuesday announced its financial results for the shortened fiscal year 2014 that began on March 31, 2013 and ended January 31, 2014, consisting of 44 weeks.

CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif. — 99 Cents Only Stores on Tuesday announced its financial results for the shortened fiscal year 2014 that began on March 31, 2013 and ended Jan. 31, 2014, consisting of 44 weeks. 

For the 10 month fiscal 2014 the Company's net sales totaled $1.5 billion. Same-store sales increased 3.7%, calculated on a comparable 43-week period of the prior year. Net loss was $12.5 million in fiscal 2014 and net loss as a percentage of net sales was (0.8)% in fiscal 2014.

Actavis on Tuesday announced that it has entered into an agreement with Mylan and Famy Care to settle all outstanding patent litigation related to Mylan's generic version of Generess FE (norethindrone, ethinyl estradiol and ferrous fumarate chewable tablets).

DUBLIN — Actavis on Tuesday announced that it has entered into an agreement with Mylan and Famy Care to settle all outstanding patent litigation related to Mylan's generic version of Generess FE (norethindrone, ethinyl estradiol and ferrous fumarate chewable tablets).

Under the terms of the agreement, Actavis will grant Mylan a license to market its generic version of Generess FE under its pending abbreviated new drug application beginning on April 1, 2015.

SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs, a Seattle-based, family-owned pharmacy retailer, has named Brent Beebe as SVP merchandising.

Beebe will develop and lead all aspects of merchandising and category management, while assuming the lead in merchandising innovation for Bartell Drugs’ 63 locations  

He most recently served as VP, GMM for Jo-Ann Stores and previously held executive and buyer positions with Fred Meyer and Meier & Frank.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — CCA Industries, whose portfolio includes Nutra Nail, Bikini Zone, Plus+White toothpaste and Scar zone scar treatment, posted a loss for the first quarter.

For the quarter ended Feb. 28, total revenues were  $7.75 million and it posted a net loss of $1.24 million. This compares with revenues of $11.80 million and the net loss $1.02 million in the year-ago period. Basic and fully diluted losses per share for the quarter were 18 cents compared a loss of 14 cents for the same quarter last year.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration on Friday announced a meeting of the Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee on May 2 to discuss the potential switch of Merck's Singulair Allergy tablets. 

The proposed OTC use is "temporarily relieves these symptoms due to hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies: Nasal congestion, runny nose, itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, itching of the nose.” The applicant proposes to label the product for OTC use in adults 18 years and older.

The drug is an allergen extract used for the treatment of grass pollen-induced allergic rhinitis with or without conjunctivitis. It is approved for use in persons ages 5 years through 65 years of age.

Mylan announced that it has launched eszopiclone tablets in 1 mg, 2 mg and 3 mg form.

PITTSBURGH — Mylan announced that it has launched eszopiclone tablets in 1 mg, 2 mg and 3 mg form. The drug — which is used for the treatment of insomnia — is the generic version of Lunesta from Sunovion Pharmaceuticals.

Mylan received final approval from the Food and Drug Administration for its abbreviated new drug application. Eszopiclone tablets had sales in the U.S. of approximately $851.8 million for the 12 months ending Dec 31, 2013, according to IMS Health.

Total group sales for the quarter were €5.64 billion, down 2.2% compared with the year-ago period. On a like-for-like basis, sales rose 3.5%.

Type 2 diabetes affects approximately 24 million people and accounts for more than 90% of diabetes cases diagnosed in the United States.

JERUSALEM — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries announced the launch of a generic equivalent to Lunesta (eszopiclone tablets) in 1-,2- and 3-mg form in the United States. The drug is used to treat insomnia.

Lunesta tablets, which are marketed by Sunovion Pharmaceuticals, had annual sales of $852 million in the United States as of December 2013, according to IMS data.
