Beauty company Revlon posted a net loss for the third quarter due to charges as sales rose 2.9%, thanks to higher net sales of Revlon color cosmetics and the inclusion of net sales of Pure Ice.

NEW YORK — Beauty company Revlon posted a net loss for the third quarter due to charges, as sales rose 2.9% thanks to higher net sales of Revlon color cosmetics and the inclusion of net sales of Pure Ice.

Net sales for the quarter totaled $347 million, up $9.8 million, or 2.9%, compared with the year-ago period. Excluding unfavorable foreign currency fluctuations, net sales rose 4.8%.

According to SymphonyIRI Group data, sales of facial anti-aging products slipped 0.8% to just shy of $800 million at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart) for the 52 weeks ended July 8.

In an exclusive interview with the Associated Press, the company said it is on track to have baby products, including its No More Tears baby shampoo, reformulated by the end of 2013. Adult products will reformulated by the end of 2015.

In the United States, net sales totaled $203.9 million, up 4.6% when compared with $194.9 million in the year-ago period.

Total net sales rose 1.7% to $357.1 million, fueled by higher sales of Revlon and Almay color cosmetics and Revlon ColorSilk hair color. Excluding foreign currency fluctuations of $9 million, net sales increased 4.2%.
