NASHUA, N.H. — Minerco Resources announced that Level 5 Beverage Co. has acquired VitaminFizz, a low-calorie, vitamin-enriched soda that was developed by Power Brands Consulting. VitaminFizz was extensively tested in the market in 2011, but the launch was delayed while efforts were focused on other consumer brands.

NEW YORK — Schnuck Markets is offering to store perishable foods for people who have lost power due to the large storm outbreak that hit the Midwest over the weekend, the supermarket chain said in announcements on its Facebook page.

The chain is offering emergency refrigeration at some of its stores in the St. Louis area, as well as the Illinois towns of Pekin and Peoria. The company said items had to be stored in coolers, containers or bags, sealed and with people's names and phone numbers attached.

When it comes to self-gifting, men are most likely to hide their gift (43% more likely than women), claim it’s from someone else (150% more likely) or even create an imaginary friend (118% more likely) rather than own up to the purchase, according to the survey conducted by Omnipulse on behalf of Roku.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Supermarket chain Hy-Vee is donating 10,000 turkeys for Thanksgiving, the company said Wednesday.

The West Des Moines, Iowa-based chain said it would donate the turkeys over a 10-day period in 10 cities around the Midwest, including Lincoln, Neb.; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Sioux City, Iowa; Des Moines, Iowa; Mason City, Iowa; Rochester, Minn.; Omaha, Neb.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; Madison, Wis.; and the Kansas City, Mo., metro area and Quad Cities metro area in Iowa and Illinois.

CINCINNATI — Kroger on Wednesday announced today it was named the 2013 Retailer of the Year by Wine Enthusiast magazine.

Wine Enthusiast selected Kroger Retailer of the Year because of the company's "dynamic growth, dedication to wine, ability to foresee trends and customer service," the editors stated. According to a profile of the grocer, Kroger surpassed $1 billion in wine sales in 2012 and is expected to post double-digit growth in 2013.

MONACO — Del Monte is partnering with SodaStream International to produce a series of new flavors for the carbonation machine maker, the two companies said Tuesday.

The portfolio of Del Monte-branded syrups include tropical, Caribbean and orange flavors.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA is encouraging pork suppliers to start using open housing for pregnant sows by 2022, the supermarket retailer said Friday.

The company, which owns the Stop & Shop, Giant-Landover and Giant-Carlisle chains, as well as the Peapod online grocery service, said it wanted suppliers to transition from gestation crates to open housing, with the option of using gestation crates during appropriate times to keep sows and piglets healthy and safe.

Beginning in November 2013, 400 Stop & Shop locations will carry six varieties within the Activate portfolio, which includes Activate Beauty: Exotic Berry, Activate Defy: Pomegranate Blue, Activate Defend: Orange, Activate Charged: Grape and Lemon Lime and Activate Balance: Fruit Punch.
