German drug maker Boehringer Ingelheim will purchase a manufacturing plant from U.S. biotech company Amgen, the two said.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — German drug maker Boehringer Ingelheim will purchase a manufacturing plant from U.S. biotech company Amgen, the two said.

The plant, located in Fremont, Calif., is 100,000 sq. ft. and employs around 360 people. BI has been a contract manufacturer for Amgen for more than 10 years. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, though BI said it would purchase “substantially all” of the assets at the plant.

Pfizer has paid Seattle Genetics $8 million to license its antibody technology, Seattle Genetics said Thursday.

BOTHELL, Wash. — Pfizer has paid Seattle Genetics $8 million to license its antibody technology, Seattle Genetics said Thursday.

Seattle Genetics, based in Bothell, Wash., said Pfizer would pursue antibodies for treating an unspecified form of cancer using its antibody-drug conjugate technology. ADCs are monoclonal antibodies that selectively deliver anti-cancer agents to tumor cells. Seattle Genetics has developed anti-tumor drugs called auristatins, which are attached to antibodies and then used to kill the cancer cells while sparing noncancer cells.

Supplier News — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic drug for hypertension made by Mylan. Mylan announced the approval of nifedipine extended-release tablets in the 30-mg, 60-mg and 90-mg strengths. The drug is a generic version of Bayer’s Adalat CC. Nifedipine tablets had sales of around $82 million during the 12-month period ended June 2010, according to IMS Health.

WESTON, Mass. and ZURICH — In a deal that will bolster its drug development capabilities, Biogen Idec has acquired a subsidiary of Swiss-based Neurimmune Holding AG.

Among other assets, the agreement gives Biogen the worldwide rights to three preclinical immunotherapy programs. The three programs are focused on the discovery and development of novel human antibodies that address three central nervous system targets: alpha-synuclein, tau and TDP-43.
