Several intertwined factors are fueling the mass nail care market, and according to a new report by Packaged Facts, the growth of do-it-yourself nail products is expected to continue despite an uptick in professional nail services.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — Several intertwined factors are fueling the mass nail care market, and according to a new report by Packaged Facts, the growth of do-it-yourself nail products is expected to continue despite an uptick in professional nail services.

SymphonyIRI Group, a Chicago-based market research firm, reported that sales of nail care products grew 26% for the 52 weeks ended April 15 at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart). Nail polish sales, in particular, grew about 43% during that time.

In her new role, Turner will lead Hershey’s legal, government relations, corporate security and corporate secretary functions. She will report to Hershey president and CEO John Bilbrey. She also will serve as a member of the company’s global leadership team.

The Federal Trade Commission has approved Giant Food Stores' proposal to acquire 15 Genuardi's stores from Safeway.

CARLISLE, Pa. — The Federal Trade Commission has approved Giant Food Stores' proposal to acquire 15 Genuardi's stores from Safeway.

The announcement follows Giant's Jan. 5 announcement that it would acquire the Genuardi's stores, all of which are located in the greater Philadelphia market. Giant also noted that under the terms of a consent order approved by the FTC, the Genuardi's located in Newtown, Pa., will be purchased by Newtown Market and will be operated as a McCaffrey's supermarket.

Dr. Reddy's Labs and Merck KGaA subsidiary Merck Serono announced a partnership to develop biosimilar cancer treatments, most of them monoclonal antibodies, for global markets. Based in Darmstadt, Germany, Merck KGaA operates in the United States under the name EMD to distinguish itself from U.S. drug maker Merck.

Sandoz announced the acquisition of Melville, N.Y.-based Fougera for $1.525 billion in cash. Fougera specializes in generic dermatology drugs, and Sandoz said the acquisition would make it the world's largest company in the space.
