PLAINSBORO TOWNSHIP, N.J. — India-based drug maker Ranbaxy Labs is looking to expand sales in the U.S. market, according to published reports.

The Associated Press said Ranbaxy CEO Arun Sawhney announced his intentions to position the company where it will be first (or one of the first) on U.S. market with just-approved generic drugs, and also is working to expand generic sales in emerging markets, such as India, China, Brazil and Russia. "The U.S., as a total business, will remain the most important to us," Sawhney was quoted as saying.

NEW ORLEANS — Costco will enter the state of Louisiana with a 148,000-sq.-ft. store at Carrollton Plaza Shopping Center in New Orleans.

The new lease, announced by center owner The Feil Organization, will add Costco to a lineup of retailers that includes CVS, Firestone, Family Dollar and Subway.

Costco is slated to open spring 2013.

The rollout of the Red Carpet Manicure line in Canada will include the brand’s starter kit and 54 shades of gel polish. The system is applied in three steps: a base coat, gel polish application and topcoat, paired with the portable LED light or pro-light.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Biotech drug maker Amgen is buying a pharmaceutical company based in Turkey, the companies said Wednesday.

Amgen said it would acquire 95.6% of Istanbul-based Mustafa Nevzat for $700 million in an all-cash deal, saying the purchase would allow it to expand in Turkey and the surrounding region. The company, also known as MN, is a major supplier of injectable drugs in Turkey and, increasingly, an exporter of medicines.

NORTHFIELD, Ill. — Kraft reportedly is gearing up to roll out a caffeinated version of its liquid water enhancer brand MiO, according to published reports.

The regular-sized bottle of caffeine-fueled MiO is expected to tout 18 servings. When a half-teaspoon of MiO Energy is mixed with 8 oz. of water, it creates a beverage that contains 60-mg of caffeine — about the same as one 6-oz. cup of coffee. The product will be marketed to those ages 18 years and older and is set to launch next month, according to the Financial Times.
