SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved several generic versions of a drug used to treat asthma and allergies, the agency said Friday.

The FDA announced the approval of montelukast sodium, a drug indicated for controlling asthma symptoms and relieving indoor and outdoor allergies.

The drug is a generic version of Merck's Singulair, which had sales of $4.6 billion in 2011, according to IMS Health.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic drug designed to treat asthma in children.

Watson Pharmaceuticals announced Wednesday the approval of budesonide inhalation suspension in the 0.25-mg/2-mL and 0.5-mg/2-mL strengths. The drug is used to control and prevent asthma symptoms in children ages 12 months to 8 years.

The drug is a generic version of AstraZeneca's Pulmicort Respules, which had sales of $1.1 billion during the 12-month period ended in May.

Total net sales rose 1.7% to $357.1 million, fueled by higher sales of Revlon and Almay color cosmetics and Revlon ColorSilk hair color. Excluding foreign currency fluctuations of $9 million, net sales increased 4.2%.

For the period ended June 23, the retailer said third-quarter net income saw a 3.1% gain to $13.1 million, compared with the year-ago period. Ingles Markets also said that — excluding gasoline, where retail prices were approximately ten cents per gallon lower in the June 2012 quarter compared with the year-ago quarter — grocery segment comparable-store sales increased 2.1%.

Costco Wholesale reported net sales of nearly $9.2 billion for the month of June, an increase of 6% from the similar period last year.

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Costco Wholesale reported net sales of nearly $9.2 billion for the month of June, an increase of 6% from the similar period last year.

Overall comparable sales for the period were 3%. U.S. comps also were 3%, while international comps were 2%.

Both year's five-week periods included 34 days in the U.S. and Canada (U.S. warehouses closed Memorial Day; Canadian warehouses closed July 1, Canada Day).
