ORLANDO, Fla. — ECRM on Wednesday evening announced the Vendor Award recipients for its ECRM Cough & Cold and Allergy event held here, recognizing GOJO Industries for the “Most Prepared,” the Emerson Group for “Best Room” and Cobalis for “Best New Product.”

The awards, sponsored by The Drug Store News Group, represent a tally of retail buyer votes on each of the categories.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark announced on Thursday an increase in fourth-quarter same-store sales and a boost in retail pharmacy revenues as pharmacy comparable-store sales benefited from the Maintenance Choice program.

"I'm pleased with our earnings this quarter, which were in line with our expectations. Our retail business continued to produce industry-leading same-store sales and achieved an all-time record operating margin," stated Larry Merlo, who currently serves as president and COO and will be taking the reins as CEO in March.

With the decision by insurance giant Wellpoint to get out of the business of managing and coordinating pharmacy benefits for some 25 million of its members, the field of battle among the competing pharmacy benefit management firms will soon narrow. If the deal is approved, three large-scale players – CVS Caremark, Express Scripts and Medco Health – will control the pharmacy use patterns of well over 100 million Americans and account for more than 2 billion prescriptions dispensed annually in the Untied States.
