Community pharmacy brings innovation to patient care

One of America’s most intractable challenges is the staggering cost of health care. Policy-makers agree that Medicare and Medicaid — not to mention the nation’s frayed health system overall — can’t continue to sustain the costs of care. One vital but underutilized resource that could help break the cost cycle is the nation’s 56,000 community pharmacies — and the pharmacists who staff them.

The National Community Pharmacists Association on Thursday announced it will host its NCPA Ownership Workshop from May 17 to 19 at the Seattle Airport Marriott.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Community Pharmacists Association on Thursday announced it will host its NCPA Ownership Workshop from May 17 to 19 at the Seattle Airport Marriott. The Ownership Workshop, sponsored by McKesson and in part by Pharmacists Mutual and Live Oak Bank, gives prospective and current pharmacy owners an in-depth look at the industry and the financial, management and marketing skills needed to operate a successful pharmacy business. The three-day session also offers pharmacists 20 hours of continuing education credits.

Wall Street reacted badly to the news — sales of Walgreens’ stock were down more than 6% to $42 and change in mid-morning trading.
