NEW YORK — Fruth Pharmacy is taking up a pseudoephedrine product for nasal congestion designed to deter the manufacturing of methamphetamine at all of its stores, according to published reports.

The West Virginia MetroNews Network reported that Fruth — which operates 25 stores in West Virginia and Ohio — would start selling Acura Pharmaceuticals' Nexafed at its stores.

Westport Pharmaceuticals announced findings from independent testing of their meth-resistant pseudoephedrine product, Zephrex-D.

ST. LOUIS — Westport Pharmaceuticals on Wednesday announced findings from independent testing of their meth-resistant pseudoephedrine product, Zephrex-D. The specially formulated pseudoephedrine product helps make it impractical and nearly impossible to illicitly manufacture methamphetamine.

According to the January 2013 "General Accounting Office Report," more than 87% of domestic meth labs utilize the One Pot meth-making method. Testing demonstrates that meth cannot be produced from Zephrex-D using this popular One Pot method.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee makes the third state this year, joining Kentucky and Nevada, that is considering state legislation to mandate the sale of pseudoephedrine as prescription-only. That could prove a big concern for the legitimate market for PSE products on account of the potential snowball effect such legislation could have on neighboring states. According to a government review staff in Kentucky, at least 97.8% of all PSE sales are bought for legitimate use.
