Jones Soda Co.'s series of Halloween-inspired soda flavors is returning to Target stores around the country.

SEATTLE — Jones Soda Co.'s series of Halloween-inspired soda flavors is returning to Target stores around the country.

The Seattle-based soda manufacturer said the 8-oz., limited-edition Halloween cans would be available in early September in four flavors — candy corn, red licorice, caramel apple and blood orange — representing traditional Halloween treats. Packaging will feature such characters as werewolves, zombies, vampires and Frankenstein.

The Natural Jones Soda product line is sweetened with a proprietary blend of natural sweeteners including pure cane sugar, organic agave syrup and stevia. Each 12-ounce glass bottle contains 30 calories, five grams of fiber and five grams of sugar and comes in four fruit flavors: Green Apple, Orange Mango, Cherry and Lemon Lime.

NEW YORK — A new hybrid grapefruit removes the chemicals that interact with dozens of drugs and have led many to stop eating the fruit, according to published reports.

Reuters reported that Florida researchers had created a grapefruit, called UF914, that mostly removes chemicals known as furanocoumarins, which can interact with more than 80 drugs, including causing serious side effects in patients taking 43 notably statin drugs for cholesterol.

True Citrus said that its crystallized beverages, which come in on-the-go stick packets, now can be found in the powdered drink mix section of many retailers, including supermarkets, mass merchandisers, convenience stores and Walmart supercenters.

ST. LOUIS — Supermarket chain Schnucks Markets is partnering with produce wholesaler Frieda’s to educate shoppers about citrus fruits.

The retailer said all of its Schnucks and Logli stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi would host Frieda’s Produce University, an eight-hour, open-house-style event on Saturday that will feature staff to teach shoppers how to prepare and eat various citrus fruits and free samples. The session will cover exotic varieties, such as Meyer lemons, pomelos, blood oranges and kumquats.
