CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble’s Pantene has named Zooey Deschanel, whose signature blunt bangs and quirky vintage wardrobe have inspired style makeovers across the country, as a celebrity ambassador.

The Golden Globe and Grammy nominated performer will appear in the brand’s newest campaign supporting the Pantene Beautiful Lengths collection beginning in August. Deschanel will appear in all elements of the brand’s holistic marketing campaign, including TV and print advertising, in-store displays, iMedia and public relations outreach.

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble on Friday announced a decrease in third-quarter profit, as sales rose 2%.

Net sales during the quarter rose 2% to $20.2 billion. Organic sales rose 3%.

Net earnings totaled $2.41 billion, or 82 cents per diluted share, compared with $2.87 billion, or 96 cents per diluted share, in the year-ago period.

In the company’s beauty segment, net sales rose 1% to $4.8 billion on unit volume growth of 1%. Organic sales grew 2%. Net earnings rose 3% to $523 million.

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble, a worldwide Olympic partner, has launched its global P&G "Thank You Mom" campaign in celebration of 100 days to go until the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The campaign recognizes and celebrates the moms behind the athletes by thanking moms for all they do, and is a part of P&G’s worldwide partnership with the International Olympic Committee. It marks the biggest campaign in P&G’s 174-year history and will run from now through the end of the Olympic Games.

Prasco Labs will market an authorized generic version of a drug used to treat diarrhea caused by a bacterial infection, the company said Wednesday.

CINCINNATI — Prasco Labs will market an authorized generic version of a drug used to treat diarrhea caused by a bacterial infection, the company said Wednesday.

Prasco announced that it had signed a deal with ViroPharma to market an authorized generic version of Vancocin (vancomycin hydrochloride) capsules in the 125-mg and 250-mg strengths. The drug is used to treat diarrhea related to Clostridium difficile infection.

CINCINNATI — Prasco Labs has launched an authorized generic version of a blood-pressure drug made by Shionogi, the company said.

Prasco announced the launched of nisoldipine extended-release tablets in the 8.5-mg, 17-mg and 34-mg strengths.

The drug is an authorized generic version of Shionogi's Sular. Authorized generics are branded drugs marketed under their generic names at reduced prices, usually under a partnership between the branded drug's manufacturer and an outside company.

CINCINNATI — Beauty company Kao USA, whose brands include Bioré, John Frieda and Frizz-Ease, has announced that its corporate headquarters will relocate from its current facility on Spring Grove Avenue to the 312 Plum St. building in downtown Cincinnati.

The facility will house more than 200 marketing, sales, market research, creative and administration employees who will occupy more than 55,000 sq. ft. of the building.

CINCINNATI — Despite recording an increase in total and identical-store sales during fourth quarter 2011, Kroger reported a net loss due to costs associated with consolidating its pension plan for union workers.

The grocer, whose banners include Kroger, Ralphs and Food 4 Less, said the loss of of $306.9 million, or 54 cents per share, compared with a profit of $278.8 million in the year-ago period.

Total sales in the quarter rose 7.7% to $21.4 billion. Excluding fuel, sales rose 5%. Same-store sales increased 4.9% (excluding fuel).

Procter & Gamble unveiled a larger than expected cost-savings program that involves cutting a total of 5,700 nonmanufacturing jobs in an effort to trim costs by the end of fiscal 2016, said P&G CEO Bob McDonald during the company’s annual Consumer Analyst Group of New York conference in Boca Raton, Fla.

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble unveiled a larger than expected cost-savings program that involves cutting a total of 5,700 nonmanufacturing jobs in an effort to trim costs by the end of fiscal 2016, said P&G CEO Bob McDonald during the company’s annual Consumer Analyst Group of New York conference in Boca Raton, Fla.

According to published reports, the cuts represent about 10% of P&G’s nonmanufacturing jobs. P&G has about 57,000 nonmanufacturing employees among its total workforce of about 129,000.
