A late Christmas gift may be in the works for retailers, according to new research from ShopperTrak.

CHICAGO — A late Christmas gift may be in the works for retailers, according to new research from ShopperTrak.

According to the company, the day after Christmas (Dec. 26), is expected to experience an increase in foot traffic, with up to 60% more shoppers. The day after Christmas will rank third in foot traffic for the holiday shopping season, surpassed by Black Friday and Super Saturday, the Saturday one week before Christmas. This is great news for retailers, ShopperTrak said, as national foot traffic has been steadily falling since 2005.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart is offering customers an early, exclusive preview of its Black Friday specials.

Customers that sign up at Walmart.com for Walmart's Facebook page will be able to view top assortments across a variety of categories. Walmart also will hold an early holiday sale beginning Nov. 5.

Walmart recently announced it was bringing back its Christmas layaway program.

The week before Christmas will be especially important for retailers looking to come out on top this holiday season, according to new ShopperTrak research released Tuesday.

CHICAGO — The week before Christmas will be especially important for retailers looking to come out on top this holiday season, according to new ShopperTrak research released Tuesday.

Five of the top sales and foot traffic days will occur between Dec. 18 and Dec. 24, according to ShopperTrak, which noted in a recent report that holiday sales are projected to increase this year despite a drop in foot traffic.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart announced that it is helping ensure customers pay the lowest price on holiday gifts with the launch of its Christmas price guarantee.

Customers who purchase eligible product at Walmart anytime between Nov. 1 and Dec. 25, and then find those same products advertised for less at another store, will receive a Walmart gift card for the difference through Dec. 25.

Consumers still have a sweet tooth despite a sour economy. U.S. confectionery sales at food, drug and mass stores continue to grow at a pace of 4.2%, outpacing overall store sales, according to data from the National Confectioners Association.

Chocolate is the key growth driver, with sales up nearly 8% in the drug channel, according to SymphonyIRI Group data for the 52-week period ended July 11. Sweet and savory combinations are one of the segment’s top trends, according to NCA.
