SHANGHAI, LONDON and ROTTERDAM — Unilever has acquired a majority stake in the Qinyuan Group, a Chinese water purification business — marking Unilever’s largest acquisition in China for more than 10 years.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Qinyuan generated sales approaching €140 million for the 12-month period Dec. 31.

DUBLIN — Actavis last week announced that it has signed and completed an agreement for Zhejiang Chiral Medicine Chemicals Co. to acquire Actavis' interest in Actavis (Foshan) Pharmaceuticals Co., an Actavis subsidiary based in Foshan, China.  

Actavis intends to continue further commercial operations in China in collaboration with its preferred business partners.

Beauty company Revlon is exiting its operations in China, which represents about 2% of the company’s net sales, and is eliminating about 1,100 jobs.

NEW YORK — Beauty company Revlon is exiting its operations in China, which represents about 2% of the company’s net sales, and is eliminating about 1,100 jobs.

In the Dec. 30 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Revlon stated that the job cuts, which will take place primarily in China, will include the elimination of about 940 beauty advisers retained indirectly through a third-party agency.

Panayotopoulos joined P&G in 1977. He served in sales and general management roles spanning Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, eventually overseeing all P&G brands as vice chair – Global Business Units. As previously announced, he was elected to his current role as advisor to the CEO effective July 1, 2013.

PARIS — French beauty brand L’Oréal is looking to acquire China’s Magic Holdings International, which specializes in cosmetic facials masks, for $840 million.

The proposed price is 6.30 Hong Kong dollars per share. L’Oréal’s proposal is supported by Magic’s board of directors. The transaction is subject to the approval of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.

"Be American; buy American" has long been a slogan that makes buying U.S.-made goods sound nothing less than patriotic because it helps create American jobs, much like CVS' initiatives to create jobs for veterans, and the recent Made-in-USA fervor around the country has more than demonstrated that. But there are practical reasons for sourcing domestically as well, making it high time for retailers to start looking into putting more products with the "Made in USA" label on their shelves.
