Harris Teeter’s Express Lane Online Shopping service was introduced in 2000 to the company’s home market of Charlotte, N.C. The goal: To make grocery shopping as easy and convenient as possible. The service has now grown to 150 locations throughout the company’s footprint, with the most recent location opening last week at the new Canton Crossing Harris Teeter in Baltimore, Md.

In a move to increase traffic and grow sales, Family Dollar said it added 400 products to its food offerings and reduced prices on 1,000 other items.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a move to increase traffic and grow sales, Family Dollar said it added 400 products to its food offerings and reduced prices on 1,000 other items.

As part of the rollout, the operator of more than 8,100 stores enlisted the aid of television personality, author and chef Pat Neely. Plans call for Neely to participate in several special events including a recipe contest in which the challenge is to prepare a meal for four for under $15. The contest winner will receive a cooking experience with Neely at his home in Memphis.

Harris Teeter and MillerCoors on Tuesday donated holiday meals to 400 military families served by Operation Homefront.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Harris Teeter and MillerCoors on Tuesday donated holiday meals to 400 military families served by Operation Homefront. Murphy-Goode also donated $6,000 in Harris Teeter gift cards to Operation Homefront; the gift cards will be used by military families to purchase holiday meals. 

Operation Homefront is a nonprofit organization which provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors.

The money was raised through Harris Teeter vendors who will participate in a cornhole tournament hosted by Harris Teeter on Friday. 

The winners of the Harris Teeter cornhole tournament will also participate in the “Pitchin’ for Wishes” tournament.

Publix Super Markets and Bi-Lo Holdings, parent company of the Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie grocery store chains, on Friday announced they have entered into an agreement under which Publix is expected to purchase seven Bi-Lo-branded stores in North and South Carolina.

LAKELAND and JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Publix Super Markets and Bi-Lo Holdings LLC, parent company of the Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie grocery store chains, on Friday announced they have entered into an agreement under which Publix is expected to purchase seven Bi-Lo-branded stores in North and South Carolina. The transaction is projected to close in October 2013 and includes seven leased stores as well as major equipment. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Harris Teeter will hold a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony on July 31 to celebrate the opening of its 53,000-square-foot store in a new market for the supermarket chain — Goldsboro, N.C. 

The store features a Farmers Markets focusing on both locally and regionally grown items. It will also have an expanded chef-prepared food section in Market Hall and a full-service pharmacy with drive-up service.

In addition to donating food at local Harris Teeter stores, Nationals fans may bring non-perishable food items to Nationals Park on July 6 and 7 when the team faces the San Diego Padres. Volunteers will collect donations outside Center Field Gate from the time gates open through the fourth inning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Harris Teeter Supermarkets on Thursday elected Mark Ordan to its board at its annual shareholders meeting.

Ordan is CEO of Sunrise Senior Living, a provider of senior living services in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Ordan has also held senior executive positions at a number of companies in the real estate, food service and supermarket industries.

The company also announced that its board declared a quarterly dividend in the amount of $0.15 per share, to be paid on April 1, 2013 to shareholders of record on March 8, 2013.

WASHINGTON — Patients around the country "strongly" oppose laws that have been proposed to change popular OTC drugs to prescription-only, according to a new survey.

The survey, conducted online by Harris Interactive on behalf of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, polled 2,020 adults in January who had asthma, allergies, cold, cough or flu in the past 12 months and who had purchased OTC drugs for at least one condition during that time.
