VERONA, N.J. — OTC Perspectives magazine on Tuesday named its third annual list of "Top OTC/HBA Marketers of the Year."

Marketers of over-the-counter products and health-and-beauty aids will be honored at a celebratory luncheon on May 10 during the OTC/HBA National Conference.

Scores of today’s leading retail executives from food, drug and mass, and their supply partners, are set to convene at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Annual Meeting. This year’s NACDS Annual Meeting, which will run from April 30 to May 3, will be held in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the Phoenician resort nestled in the Sonoran Desert in the shadows of Camelback Mountain. As the industry gears up for NACDS Annual Meeting, Drug Store News talked with Jim Whitman, SVP member programs and services, to discuss why it is a “must attend” event.

RICHMOND, Ky. — The wife of former National Association of Chain Drug Stores chairman Robert Begley has died, according to published reports.

In an obituary published last month, the Lexington Herald-Leader, a Kentucky newspaper, reported the death of Vera Begley at the age of 93.

Robert Begley, who died in 1979, founded the Begley Drug Co. and served as NACDS chairman. The Robert B. Begley Award, created in 1980, is named in his honor.

PITTSBURGH — Giant Eagle on Thursday received the American Diabetes Association's prestigious Chairman's Citation Award, which recognizes the accomplishments of individuals, corporations, institutions and organizations who have demonstrated dedication and commitment, and have had a positive impact in advancing the mission of the ADA.

SAN FRANCISCO — Walmart’s U.S. VP benefits, Chris McSwain, was elected chairman of the Integrated Benefits Institute, the organization announced Monday.

“Chris McSwain has played an important leadership role in the health benefits community, and we look forward to his continued leadership with IBI,” said Thomas Parry, president of the nonprofit health and productivity research organization.

PARIS — French beauty company L'Oréal has announced the departure of Lindsay Owen-Jones, the company's longtime chairman.

The company stated that Owen-Jones wished to complete the transfer of responsibilities to his successor, Jean-Paul Agon, before his 65th birthday on March 17, as planned and announced at the annual general meeting in 2005.

DUESSELDORF, Germany, and ROCKY HILL, Conn. — Henkel, whose North American brands include Dial soaps and Right Guard antiperspirants, is introducing a new corporate design and slogan.

The new corporate design will be implemented starting in February, when it will be applied to such publications as the annual report, recruitment ads and employee newsletters, in addition to the Internet and Intranet, and to Henkel conferences, trade shows and exhibits.

WASHINGTON — The Grocery Manufacturers Association elected a new chairman for its board of directors.

Gary Rodkin, ConAgra Foods CEO, will serve as chairman of GMA's board, effective Feb. 16. Rodkin will serve a two-year term.

Prior to this position, Rodkin served as GMA's vice chairman, as well as chairman of the organization's government affairs council. Rodkin has worked at ConAgra since 2005.

CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble on Tuesday announced that Robert Steele, vice chairman of global health and well-being, will retire effective Sept. 1.

Steele oversees oral care, feminine care, personal health care, pet care and snacks for P&G.

Between now and September, Steele will serve as vice chairman of healthcare strategy, reporting to P&G chairman, president and CEO Robert McDonald.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A group representing the drug retailing industry submitted a letter to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., regarding "issues [that] are of the utmost importance" to its members.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores' president and CEO, Steve Anderson, wrote to Issa, highlighting certain pieces of legislation that affect traditional drug stores, supermarkets and mass merchants with pharmacies, all of which NACDS represents.
