Herring has had a successful career at Ahold companies for nearly 25 years and has made many contributions to the Ahold organization.

Ahold USA has opened 120 pickup points for online orders as of the end of 2013, the supermarket operator said Monday.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA has opened 120 pickup points for online orders as of the end of 2013, the supermarket operator said Monday.

Ahold, which hopes to triple its online food sales by 2016, said the opening of pickup points in the United States and Europe would be an important part of reaching that goal. Most of the pickup points in the United States are operated under the Stop & Shop, Giant Food of Landover, Md., and Giant Food Stores of Carlisle, Pa., banners. The 120 pickup points compare with only eight a year ago.

CARLISLE, Pa. – Ahold USA division Giant Food Stores has donated nearly $650,000 to local charities, the supermarket banner said.

Giant, based in Carlisle, Pa., and also known as Giant-Carlisle to distinguish itself from another Ahold banner, Giant Food of Landover, Md., said customers at Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets — part of the same banner — donated $640,194 to local Children's Miracle Network hospitals in their communities as part of a donation campaign that took place between Nov. 24 and Dec. 7.

Giant-Carlisle announced the launch of the Giant Pick Up service at stores in Harrisburg, Camp Hill, Montgomeryville and Willow Grove, replacing a previous service at the Willow Grove and Camp Hill stores called Shop from Home. Giant-Carlisle and Peapod are owned by Ahold USA, the U.S. subsidiary of Dutch supermarket operator Royal Ahold.

The Ahold USA-owned company announced the opening of the center, in Coopersburg, Pa., to serve residents of nearby Bucks County, Pa. Peapod offers its services in the area in conjunction with Giant Food Stores, a Carlisle, Pa.-based supermarket chain also owned by Ahold.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA has won accolades for working with diverse and women-owned businesses, the supermarket operator said Wednesday.

Ahold, which owns the Stop & Shop, Giant-Carlisle and Giant-Landover supermarket banners and the Peapod online grocery service, said Professional Woman's Magazine had named it among the "Top Supplier Diversity Programs for Women" for 2013. The magazine has ranked companies in this way for 14 years.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores has opened its first small pharmacy in a Valley Forge, Pa., retirement community, the supermarket chain said.

The Carlisle, Pa.-based supermarket banner, owned by Ahold USA, opened the pharmacy at the Shannondell, a nationally recognized continuing care community.

"This pharmacy offers the residents a selection of convenience items and top-quality pharmacy service they have come to appreciate at the larger Giant Food Stores located across the street, right within their own community."

CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores turned 90 Friday, the Ahold USA-owned supermarket chain said.

The supermarket banner, which operates nearly 200 stores under the Giant and Martin's Food Markets brands in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, marked its 90th anniversary Friday morning at a store in its hometown of Carlisle, Pa. Customers at all the company's 200 stores will receive free slices of cake and free apple slices Friday.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores is donating $9,000 to a local food bank to celebrate its 90 years in operation, the supermarket chain said.

Giant said it would expand its "Living Here, Giving Here" community support program by spending 90 days donating to local food banks, in this case to the Second Harvest Food Bank, providing hunger relief throughout the Lehigh Valley. The chain has donated more than $150 million in money and products to charitable causes since 2005.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA has appointed Nick Bertram as its SVP store strategy and execution, the supermarket operator said Thursday.

Bertram previoulsy worked for Jewel-Osco, where he oversaw operations across Illinois, Indiana and Iowa. He was also SVP of Supervalu and worked in executive positions at Walmart in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. His new position at Ahold USA will be based out of the company's Carlisle, Pa., headquarters.

Ahold USA division Giant Food Stores has raised $540,888 for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, the chain said Wednesday.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA division Giant Food Stores has raised $540,888 for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, the chain said Wednesday.

Giant-Carlisle, which also includes Martin's Food Markets, allowed customers to donate $1 to purchase paper balloons. The chain has been supporting CMN Hospitals for 17 years and recently passed the $30 million fundraising mark.

The money from the campaign will be donated to children's hospitals in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Richmond, Va., and the Pennsylvania cities of Harrisburg, Danville and Altoona.

CARLISLE, Pa. — A division of Ahold USA is donating millions of dollars to local schools.

Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets, also known as Giant-Carlisle, announced Wednesday the donation of $3 million to 2,868 public and private schools through its A+ School Rewards program for the 2012-2013 school year. The program has donated more than $16 million since 2005. The program allows local schools to earn money for technology, scholarships, school programs, field trips, playgrounds and other needs.

The chains, which collectively comprise Ahold USA's Giant-Carlisle banner, will sponsor the events on April 27, in partnership with local law enforcement agencies and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Patients can bring expired and unwanted medications, which will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner for free.

Giant-Carlisle, officially known as Giant Food Stores and owned by Ahold, said the gas station opened at a store in Souderton, Pa. The chain offers a loyalty program, Gas Extra Rewards, that provides discounts on gas when people shop at the supermarket's front end and pharmacy.
