CVS Caremark has partnered with Direct Relief USA to offer up to $6 million in free flu shots to community clinic and health center patients who are uninsured, the company announced on Tuesday.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark has partnered with Direct Relief USA to offer up to $6 million in free flu shots to community clinic and health center patients who are uninsured, the company announced on Tuesday.

More than 400 participating clinics and health centers across the country will identify uninsured individuals from their existing patient populations and provide them with a free flu shot voucher, which is redeemable at more than 7,200 CVS/pharmacy locations and the nearly 600 MinuteClinics inside select CVS/pharmacy stores.

The $4.3 million generated by this year's campaign brings the total amount raised by CVS/pharmacy colleagues and customers for ALS research to more than $27 million.

CVS Caremark’s in-store health clinic business MinuteClinic has opened a new clinic inside the CVS/pharmacy store in downtown Charleston, S.C. — marking the first clinic to open in the Charleston metro area and MinuteClinic's 17th location in South Carolina.

MinuteClinic plans to open seven additional clinics along the South Carolina coast between now and early 2012. The new clinics will be located in the Charleston, Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach metropolitan areas.

CVS Caremark’s board of directors has approved a new share repurchase program for up to $4 billion of the company's outstanding common stock.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark’s board of directors has approved a new share repurchase program for up to $4 billion of the company's outstanding common stock.

The share repurchase authorization, which is effective immediately, enables the pharmacy retailer to affect the repurchases from time to time through a combination of open market repurchases, privately negotiated transactions, accelerated share repurchase transactions, and/or other derivative transactions.

Hetty Lima has been tapped to serve as Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy's VP specialty infusion services, the company announced this week.

FLINT, Mich. — Hetty Lima has been tapped to serve as Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy's VP specialty infusion services, the company announced this week.

In her new role, Lima will will be responsible for leading the sales and operations for Diplomat’s specialty infused product lines, including the national nursing network.

Lima, a 27-year industry veteran, served in various executive-level positions at such companies as Baxter Healthcare, CVS Caremark’s specialty pharmacy division and Coram’s Hemophilia Services division.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — MinuteClinic has surpassed 10 million patient visits since opening its doors in 2000.

The retail clinic operator, which is owned by CVS Caremark, said that the 10 millionth patient was seen at a clinic in Quincy, Mass., one of the communities where MinuteClinic has opened new locations in the past 18 months.

Two of the country’s largest pharmacy benefit managers plan to merge in a deal worth $29.1 billion.

ST. LOUIS — Two of the country’s largest pharmacy benefit managers plan to merge in a deal worth $29.1 billion.

St. Louis-based Express Scripts and Franklin Lakes, N.J.-based Medco Health Solutions announced Thursday that their boards had voted unanimously to approve the merger, though the deal still is subject to regulatory review. The deal would create the country’s largest PBM, followed by CVS Caremark.
