WOONSOCKET, R.I. — The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, the private foundation managed by CVS Caremark, is helping to support the relief efforts for communities along the East Coast impacted by Hurricane Irene by donating $75,000 to the American Red Cross and distributing thousands of dollars worth of supplies to local residents.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark’s in-store health clinic business MinuteClinic has opened a new clinic inside the CVS/pharmacy store in downtown Charleston, S.C. — marking the first clinic to open in the Charleston metro area and MinuteClinic's 17th location in South Carolina.

MinuteClinic plans to open seven additional clinics along the South Carolina coast between now and early 2012. The new clinics will be located in the Charleston, Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach metropolitan areas.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark’s board of directors has approved a new share repurchase program for up to $4 billion of the company's outstanding common stock.

The share repurchase authorization, which is effective immediately, enables the pharmacy retailer to affect the repurchases from time to time through a combination of open market repurchases, privately negotiated transactions, accelerated share repurchase transactions, and/or other derivative transactions. 


WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark has appointed former Macy’s executive Mark Cosby as president of CVS/pharmacy, effective Oct. 1.

Cosby most recently served as Macy’s president of stores, where he was responsible for all Macy's store operations and support functions nationwide.

FLINT, Mich. — Hetty Lima has been tapped to serve as Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy's VP specialty infusion services, the company announced this week.

In her new role, Lima will will be responsible for leading the sales and operations for Diplomat’s specialty infused product lines, including the national nursing network.

Lima, a 27-year industry veteran, served in various executive-level positions at such companies as Baxter Healthcare, CVS Caremark’s specialty pharmacy division and Coram’s Hemophilia Services division.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark is gearing up for flu season and will leverage both its CVS/pharmacy locations and MinuteClinic sites to provide flu shots for patients every day, including evenings and weekends, and will offer direct medical billing to many national and regional health plans that will cover all or part of the cost of a flu shot.

CHICAGO — CVS Caremark, through its All Kids Can program, has partnered with Easter Seals over the past six years to support children at risk of autism, developmental delays or disabilities. CVS Caremark is continuing its support by investing in Easter Seals' Make the First Five Count initiative to help assure children receive critical early intervention services.

WOONSOCKET, R.I., and DETROIT — Henry Ford Health System is working to increase its capacity to serve patients in metropolitan Detroit through a new collaborative effort with CVS Caremark's MinuteClinic.

MinuteClinic has 10 walk-in clinics inside select CVS/pharmacy stores in Southeast Michigan and is exploring additional locations in the Detroit metropolitan area.

ST. LOUIS — Two of the country’s largest pharmacy benefit managers plan to merge in a deal worth $29.1 billion.

St. Louis-based Express Scripts and Franklin Lakes, N.J.-based Medco Health Solutions announced Thursday that their boards had voted unanimously to approve the merger, though the deal still is subject to regulatory review. The deal would create the country’s largest PBM, followed by CVS Caremark.
