The new product is a shelf-stable, guaranteed-yield probiotic softgel that delivers the Unique IS-2 Bacillus coagulans strain, a trademarked bacterium which has demonstrated high resistance to extreme temperature and humidity.

Perrigo launches store-brand Prevacid 24HR

Perrigo on Friday announced that it has received final approval from the Food and Drug Administration for its abbreviated new drug application for lansoprazole capsules in the 15-mg strength.

ALLEGAN, Mich. — Perrigo on Friday announced that it has received final approval from the Food and Drug Administration for its abbreviated new drug application for lansoprazole capsules in the 15-mg strength. The capsules are a generic equivalent of Novartis' Prevacid 24HR capsules.

Sales for Prevacid OTC were approximately $220 million, Perrigo reported.

Impax, Banner to develop two softgel capsule products

Impax Labs will collaborate with a specialty pharmaceutical company dedicated to the research, development and manufacturing of unique gelatin-based dosage forms.

HAYWARD, Calif., and HIGH POINT, N.C. — Impax Labs will collaborate with a specialty pharmaceutical company dedicated to the research, development and manufacturing of unique gelatin-based dosage forms.

Impax said it has entered a deal with Banner Pharmacaps in respect to the supply and commercialization of two softgel capsule products.

The products and terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

FDA: Tessalon should be packaged in childproof containers

A prescription cough suppressant should be kept in childproof containers because of its candy-like appearance, the Food and Drug Administration warned Tuesday.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A prescription cough suppressant should be kept in childproof containers because of its candy-like appearance, the Food and Drug Administration warned Tuesday.

Tessalon (benzonatate) is made by Forest Labs and comes in the form of a round, liquid-filled gelatin capsule. The drug is used to relieve cough in patients older than 10 years of age.
