The National Community Pharmacists Association commended Texas Gov. Rick Perry for signing into law two significant pieces of legislation in support of Texas small business independent community pharmacies: HB 1358, legislation that provides common sense standards to pharmacy audits conducted by pharmacy benefit managers, and SB 1106, which provides transparency in generic maximum allowable costs, or MACs, for Medicaid plans.

The Master of Professional Studies degree program in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing and Management at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City recently showcased its final projects at the annual FIT Capstone presentation. This year’s presentation focused on “Beauty in a Digital World.”

Beauty is helping to redefine the customer experience of shopping a drug store and is helping retailers set themselves apart from rivals in a very competitive environment.

The Safeway Foundation and Stand Up To Cancer, a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, have teamed up to develop a print, radio and digital public service announcement featuring actress and SU2C Ambassador Marcia Cross. The PSA is designed to increase awareness for the fight against prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death for men in the United States, and currently affects more than two million American men. One-in-six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.

Goudet replaces Bernd Beetz, who stepped down from Coty's Board to pursue other interests. JAB is a privately held group that owns and invests in premium brands; it is also Coty's majority shareholder.

NEW YORK — President Obama has re-nominated Marilyn Tavenner as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, according to published reports.

The Hill, a Washington-based newspaper that covers Capitol Hill, noted that Tavenner had received an endorsement from House majority leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., who had worked with her when she was in charge of the Medicaid program in his state. Still, she could face a tougher time in the Senate.

The first major test came in June, when the U.S. Supreme Court refused to overturn the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, while still ruling that the law’s provision requiring individuals to obtain health insurance was unconstitutional.


What saved the ACA was the court’s decision that the government’s mandate to purchase health insurance qualified as a tax.
