Ranbaxy announced the launch of an authorized generic version of Caduet (atorvastatin and amlodipine besylate). The drug is used to treat patients with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Mylan launched a generic version of the drug on Thursday.

Lupin announced the approval of amlodipine besylate and benazepril hydrochloride capsules in the 5-mg/40-mg and 10-mg/40-mg strengths. The company already markets the drug in the 2.5-mg/10-mg, 5-mg/10-mg, 5-mg/20-mg and 10-mg/20-mg strengths.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — A drug made by Daiichi-Sankyo was safe and effective in maintaining reductions in blood pressure in older patients, according to a new study presented at the American Society of Hypertension’s 26th annual meeting in New York.

The “TRINITY” study of Tribenzor (olmesartan medoxomil, amlodipine besylate and hydrochlorothiazide) showed the drug was well-tolerated and effective in patients ranging in age from younger than 65 years to older than 65 years, after a year.

PITTSBURGH — Generic drug maker Mylan has entered settlements with Pfizer concerning two drugs for treating cholesterol.

Mylan announced Tuesday that it had settled patent litigation suits with Pfizer concerning Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium) and Caduet (atorvastatin calcium and amlodipine besylate).

Under the Caduet agreement, the lawsuit will be dismissed, and Mylan can launch its generic version on Nov. 30. Terms of the Lipitor agreement remain confidential.

Par announced the shipment of amlodipine besylate and benazepril hydrochloride capsules in the 5-mg/320-mg and 10-mg/320-mg strengths. The drug is a generic version of Novartis’ Lotrel, which has annual sales of $361 million in the two strengths, according to IMS Health.

Sandoz announced the launch of amlodipine besylate and benazepril in the 5-mg/40-mg and 10-mg/40-mg strengths. The company already marketed the drug in the 2.5-mg/10-mg, 5-mg/10-mg, 5-mg/20-mg and 10-mg/20-mg strengths.

The drug is an authorized generic of Lotrel, marketed by Novartis Pharmaceuticals. An authorized generic is a branded drug marketed under its generic name at a reduced price.

EAST HANOVER, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved Novartis Pharmaceuticals’ Amturnide (aliskiren, amlodipine and hydrochlorothiazide) tablets for the treatment of high blood pressure, according to the pharma company. 

Amturnide combines the only approved direct rennin inhibitor worldwide, Tekturna (aliskiren), with the widely used calcium channel blocker amlodipine and the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ).

MORRISTOWN, N.J. The Food and Drug Administration has approved a Watson Pharmaceuticals generic drug for treating high blood pressure, Watson said Friday.

 

The company announced the FDA approval of amlodipine besylate and benazepril capsules in the 5/20-mg, 10/20-mg, 2.5/10-mg and 5/10-mg strengths.

 

 

The drug is a generic version of Novartis’ Lotrel. Branded and generic versions of the drug had sales of around $1.05 billion during the 12-month period ended in June, according to IMS Health.

The FDA approved Tekamlo (aliskiren and amlodipine besylate) tablets, which combine Tekturna (aliskiren) with amlodipine, a channel blocker available as a generic. The drug is approved for treating patients who are likely to need multiple drugs to lower their blood pressure or as a replacement for patients who can’t control it using one of the drugs alone.
