CHICAGO — SymphonyIRI Group on Thursday identified the executives sitting on its new board of directors, including the naming of Lawrence Benjamin as chairman.

A 25-year veteran, Benjamin most recently held several executive positions at Royal Ahold, including CEO of U.S. foodservice, COO of Ahold's U.S. retail businesses, EVP and a seat on the company's global board. Previously, he was CEO for NutraSweet and president of the frozen meals division of Kraft. Benjamin currently is a senior adviser at New Mountain Capital.

TORONTO — Katz Group Canada, Canada’s largest integrated pharmacy network with more than 1,800 chain, franchise and independent pharmacies, has announced the retirement of industry veteran Andy Giancamilli as CEO, effective Feb. 2, 2012.

Giancamilli, who will serve in an advisory role until May 2012 following his retirement in February, will be succeeded by Frank Scorpiniti, who joined the company in April as COO.

“This is an important step in the growth of Pharmavite and we are very excited to soon become part of the Opelika and greater Alabama community,” Pharmavite COO Mark Walsh said. “Our new Opelika facility will allow us to have manufacturing capacity near the East coast markets, which make up a significant portion of our business.”

MELVILLE, N.Y. — In line with its new position as a stand-alone corporation, the former U.S. subsidiary of a Swiss drug maker has appointed a new leader.

Nycomed US announced that Brian Markison, former chairman and CEO of King Pharmaceuticals, will lead the company as president, CEO and a member of the board. The company also appointed Jeff Bailey as COO and John Golubieski as CFO. Both Bailey and Golubieski also held executive roles at King.

PITTSBURGH — GNC on Tuesday continued its management makeover with the promotions of Jeffrey Hennion and Darryl Green and the announced resignation of COO David Berg.

The specialty retailer last week named Thomas Dowd, a 22-year GNC veteran, the company’s chief merchandising officer following the departure of Beth Kaplan, former president and chief merchandising officer. It also was announced last week that GNC CEO Joe Fortunato would assume the role of president.

Merck KGaA division Merck Serono has appointed Belen Garijo as COO and Annalisa Jenkins as global head of drug development and medical, effective Sept. 5.

DARMSTADT, Germany — Merck KGaA division Merck Serono has appointed Belen Garijo as COO and Annalisa Jenkins as global head of drug development and medical, effective Sept. 5.

The company, which operates under the name "EMD" in the United States and is a separate company from U.S.-based Merck, said Garijo and Jenkins will be based in Geneva and will report to president Stefan Oschmann.

Garijo previously worked for Sanofi, where he was SVP global operations for the European region, while Jenkins was SVP global medical for Bristol-Myers Squibb.

With more than 20 years of retail pharmacy experience, Scorpiniti previously was SVP pharmacy operations at Duane Reade. Prior to Duane Reade, he held positions of increasing responsibility at Longs Drug Stores.
