CAMP HILL, Pa. — Flu shots are available at every Rite Aid store around the country, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

Rite Aid said more than 11,500 pharmacists are on hand at its 4,700 stores to administer flu shots. Customers who receive the $27.99 shots at Rite Aid will get a coupon booklet with more than $100 in savings on health and wellness, beauty and household products. In addition, Wellness+ members will earn 25 reward points.

Henderson will be responsible for all aspects of corporate communications, including media relations, financial communications, issues management, associate and supplier communications and the company's charity initiatives, reporting to president and CEO John Standley.

Rite Aid’s same-store sales increased by 1.9% in July, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid’s same-store sales increased by 1.9% in July, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

During the four-week period ended July 23, comp sales jumped 3.1% on the front end and 1.4% in the pharmacy, including a 151 basis point reduction resulting from introduction of new generic drugs. Prescription counts decreased by 0.4%. Total sales during the four-week period were about $1.92 billion, a 1.6% increase over July 2010.

When Rite Aid chairman Mary Sammons accepted the Sheldon W. Fantle Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores’ Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz., in May, it was the culmination of a career that had seen Rite Aid emerge from a period of darkness that had lasted more than a decade.

Sammons plans to stay on as chairman of Camp Hill, Pa.-based Rite Aid until the company’s annual meeting in June 2012. But when she does hang up the gloves, she will have a lot to look back on.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid announced Thursday changes in its human resources and operations departments.

The 4,700-store chain named Brian Fiala as EVP human resources and Robert Thompson as EVP store operations. Rite Aid also appointed Bill Romine as SVP of the chain’s Western division.

Fiala previously served as EVP store operations, having joined the company in 2007 after working for 24 years at Target. He replaces Steve Parsons, who is leaving the company to take another position, and will report to president and CEO John Standley.

Same-store sales at Rite Aid increased by 1.8% in June, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Same-store sales at Rite Aid increased by 1.8% in June, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

During the four-week period ended June 25, front-end sales were up 1.5% over the same period last year, while pharmacy sales increased by 1.9%, including a reduction of about 163 basis points due to new introductions of generic drugs.

Total drug store sales for the month increased 1% to $1.93 billion, compared with $1.91 billion in June 2010.

Bottom line: Rite Aid narrowed its losses considerably, and that ain’t all expense control.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is partnering with the Skin Cancer Foundation to launch a healthy skin care campaign for the summer, the retail pharmacy chain announced Monday.

The campaign, which will last through July 26, will include free informational guides in all the chain’s stores and online, as well as promotions for skin care products and a national tour featuring free full-body skin cancer screenings by local dermatologists and advice from Rite Aid pharmacists.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has appointed David Kelly as group VP construction, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

Kelly, who has worked in real estate and development for more than 25 years, will start work May 31 and will have overall responsibility for all store planning and construction services, in addition to having a role in various segmentation initiatives, including Wellness, value and co-branded Save-A-Lot/Rite Aid stores. He will report directly to SVP, CFO and chief administrative officer Frank Vitrano.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has raised more than $50 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since becoming a sponsor in 1994, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

Rite Aid stores have been selling $1 paper Miracle Balloons since April in a campaign that will end Saturday, having raised $2.9 million so far this year. To mark the $50 milestone, celebrations will take place at stores in Bronx, N.Y.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Hershey, Pa.; Norfolk, Va.; and Eugene, Ore.

A partner with a private equity firm that purchased preferred stock from Rite Aid in 1999 has joined the retail pharmacy chain’s board.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — A partner with a private equity firm that purchased preferred stock from Rite Aid in 1999 has joined the retail pharmacy chain’s board.

Rite Aid said Thursday that John Baumer, a partner with Leonard Green & Partners, had joined the board, replacing Jon Sokoloff, the firm’s managing partner, who has resigned from the board.

Leonard Green & Partners is an affiliate of Green Equity Investors III, which said it will re-elect Baumer for a one-year term at Rite Aid’s annual stockholder’s meeting on June 23.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — The philanthropic arm of retail pharmacy chain Rite Aid is donating $100,000 in money and supplies to victims of tornadoes in Alabama and Tennessee, the company said Friday.

The Rite Aid Foundation said it would donate $50,000 to the Red Cross and also would donate $50,000 worth of water, snacks, batteries, flashlights, first-aid products, diapers, baby formula and cleaning supplies.

Rite Aid’s same-store sales for April increased by 0.5%, compared with April 2010, the pharmacy retailer said Wednesday.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid’s same-store sales for April increased by 0.5%, compared with April 2010, the pharmacy retailer said Wednesday.

This included a 0.4% decrease in sales at the front end and a 1% increase in pharmacy sales, offset by 133 basis points due to new introductions of generic drugs. Prescription count at comparable stores increased by 0.7%.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is selling whooping cough vaccines to parents in California at a reduced price, the retailer said Thursday.

As of July 1, a new state law will require proof of vaccination for all students entering grades 7 through 12, and nearly all of the retail pharmacy chain’s 600 stores in California will be able to vaccinate walk-in patients or by appointment. The reduced-price vaccine will sell for $57.99.

The National Confectioners Association ranked Easter as one of the top-selling holidays for candy and estimated that 16 billion jelly beans and 90 million chocolate Easter bunnies are produced each year. Four-in-5 Americans celebrate Easter and are expected to spend about $14.6 billion during the holiday at all retailers nationwide, according to the National Retail Federation.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Thousands of Rite Aid customers across the United States can get free, full-body skin cancer screenings this spring.

The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Road to Healthy Skin Tour will visit more than 60 Rite Aid stores in 19 states, sponsored by the retail pharmacy chain and Aveeno. The tour has screened more than 10,000 people since 2008, according to Rite Aid, catching 3,700 potential skin cancers and precancers, including about 200 suspected cases of the deadly skin cancer melanoma.
