GURNEE, Ill. — Quest Products on Friday announced the addition of a gel formulated for emergency burn relief, Alocane Emergency Burn Gel, to its current line of products. Previously a top-selling product on retail shelves in the 80's and 90's, it was taken off the market due to financial difficulties facing the parent company, First Pharmaceutical.

The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday alerted the public that certain external analgesics have been associated with burns.

 SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday alerted the public that certain external analgesics have been associated with burns. Most of the reported cases involved products containing higher concentrations of menthol and methyl salicylate (greater than 3% menthol or 10% methyl salicylate). Few of the cases involved capsaicin, the FDA reported.

CARLSTADT, N.J. — Water-Jel Technologies last month named Herb Baer to the post of EVP North America. Well-known among military and industrial users, the company plans to expand first-degree burn aftercare at retail in the coming year, Baer told Drug Store News.

The company recently launched Burn Jel Plus, a thick gel that salves minor burn injuries containing vitamin E, tea tree oil and 2.5% lidocaine, into the consumer market.

Sold almost exclusively through Walgreens for the past year, the burn cream is beginning to expand distribution through such grocers as Pathmark and Food City, as well as regional pharmacy operators Kinney Drugs and Kerr Drug.
