The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics announced on Wednesday that 321 cosmetics companies have met the goals of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, the campaign’s voluntary pledge to avoid chemicals banned by health agencies outside the United States and to fully disclose product ingredients. An additional 111 companies made “significant progress toward those goals,” the campaign stated.

NEW YORK — A popular breast cancer treatment may pose an increased risk of diabetes among older women, according to a new study.

The research, which was published in the latest issue of Cancer, found that among more than 14,000 breast cancer survivors, ages 65 years and up, 10% were diagnosed with diabetes over a 5-year period. However, the likelihood of developing diabetes was 25% more among those taking breast cancer drug tamoxifen.

The company announced the launch of exemestane tablets, an authorized generic version of Pfizer’s Aromasin. Aromasin is used to treat early breast cancer in menopausal women who already have taken the drug tamoxifen for two to three years, as well as breast cancer in women whose disease has worsened while taking tamoxifen, which is widely available as a generic.
