Bolthouse Farms has announced that the American Heart Association has certified its 100% carrot juice, baby carrots and cello carrots.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bolthouse Farms has announced that the American Heart Association has certified its 100% carrot juice, baby carrots and cello carrots.

The products now will tout a heart checkmark on each label, the company said, which indicates the products meet the nutritional standards the American Heart Association sets for foods and beverages.

Taro realized a 21% increase in net sales for its first quarter, the drug maker said.

HAWTHORNE, N.Y. — Taro realized a 21% increase in net sales for its first quarter, the drug maker said.

The company said it raked in net sales of $107.7 million, an increase of $18.7 million. Diluted earnings per share totaled 58 cents, compared with 21 cents in the prior-year period.

Operating income for Taro increased 84.4% to $33.4 million, or 31% of net sales, compared with $18.1 million, or 20.3% of net sales, in 2010.

During the period, Taro received three abbreviated new drug applications from the Food and Drug Administration.

MADISON, N.J. — Ragweed and mold are driving increased allergies across America, Quest Diagnostics reported Monday.

In the study, sensitization rates to common ragweed and mold increased the most of the 11 common allergens evaluated over a four-year period. Sensitization to common ragweed grew 15% nationally, while mold grew 12%. By comparison, sensitization to the 11 allergens combined increased 5.8%.

Caribbean Passion joins the roster of Jamba all-natural smoothies kits that will hit store shelves next month. Jamba's Caribbean Passion smoothie kits, which include real frozen strawberries, peaches, mangoes and passion fruit flavor, will retail for $2.99 to $3.49 per package.

The flavor joins Razzmatazz, Mango-a-go-go and Strawberries Wild smoothie varieties.

PARIS — A court in France has ordered generic drug maker Mylan to pay French drug maker Ipsen $24 million for allegedly misleading marketing of a drug, according to published reports.

Bloomberg reported that Mylan had allegedly marketed the drug Vitalogink as a generic version of Ipsen’s Tanakan rather than as a “therapeutic equivalent.” Both drugs are derived from ginkgo biloba and are used to improve memory.

Mylan has said it will appeal the decision, Bloomberg reported.

A U.S. Department of Agriculture study published in March in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has found that ragweed season is almost 16 days longer than it was in 1995 due to changes in the first frost line of the fall in North America. The first frost steadily has been creeping northward and later into the year, lead researcher Lewis Ziska wrote. That’s 16 more days of allergy relief sales — especially good news for Chattem as it shepherds its recently switched Allegra antihistamine through its first year.

The brand, which is touted as the first all-natural personal lubricant made with 95% certified organic aloe vera, also is available at Albertsons and The Vitamin Shoppe, the company said.

Aloe Cadabra is an all-natural line completely free of parabens, glycerin and harmful petroleum products. The line consists of three varieties made with aloe and vitamin E oil, along with such aromatic essential oils as Tahitian vanilla and French lavender, the company added.

ST. LOUIS — Supermarket chain Schnucks Markets is partnering with produce wholesaler Frieda’s to educate shoppers about citrus fruits.

The retailer said all of its Schnucks and Logli stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi would host Frieda’s Produce University, an eight-hour, open-house-style event on Saturday that will feature staff to teach shoppers how to prepare and eat various citrus fruits and free samples. The session will cover exotic varieties, such as Meyer lemons, pomelos, blood oranges and kumquats.
