GLEN ALLEN, Va. — Star Scientific on Tuesday launched Anatabloc, a dietary supplement formulated to support the immune system.

Anatabloc contains the dietary ingredient anatabine citrate, an alkaloid found in a variety of plants in the Solanaceae family, including the tobacco plant, as well as in eggplant, green peppers and green tomatoes. Anatabine citrate, combined with vitamins A and D3, is believed to assist the body in maintaining anti-inflammatory support, the company stated.

Second-quarter revenue for Cardinal Health rose 2%, thanks in part to its acquisition of pharmaceutical distributor Kinray.

DUBLIN, Ohio — Second-quarter revenue for Cardinal Health rose 2%, thanks in part to its acquisition of pharmaceutical distributor Kinray.

Revenue for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2010, totaled $25.4 billion, compared with the prior-year period. Similarly, Cardinal Health's earnings per share from continuing operations jumped 21% to 69 cents.

Under the leadership of MacKenzie, the business accelerated its net sales growth rate, acquired the leading dry mouth product, Biotene, in 2008, and claimed the No. 1 toothpaste SKU in the United States (Sensodyne Extra Whitening).

Dollar sales for energy drinks were up 8.2% in drug stores for the 52 weeks ended Oct. 31, 2010, according to SymphonyIRI Group. Energy shot dollar sales in the channel fared even better, with sales surging nearly 12% for the same period.


Despite occasional controversy, demand remains strong for the beverages, and the segment is poised to become even more significant as its appeal broadens beyond its original target consumer group.
