BI Pharmaceuticals is conducting the "HCVerso" trial of an HCV drug that combines faldaprevir, the experimental compound BI 207127 and ribavirin. The company has established trial sites in more than 25 states.

BI Pharmaceuticals announced the launch of Combivent Respimat (ipratropium bromide and albuterol), calling it a propellant-free inhaler that uses a slow-moving mist to deliver the same active ingredients as the Combivent metered dose inhaler, requiring one inhalation per dose, compared with Combivent MDI's two inhalations.

Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly announced Thursday results of a phase-3 trial of Tradjenta (linagliptin) in which 226 patients with Type 2 diabetes received 5 mg of the drug once per day or placebo.

WASHINGTON — A nonprofit organization focused on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease will take over a COPD awareness campaign from the drug company that started it.

The COPD Foundation said it would lead the Drive4COPD campaign — originally started by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals in 2010 to screen people for the disease with the assumption that 24 million Americans may have it but are not aware. BI will continue to provide funding for the program.

Last month, the Food and Drug Administration approved Tradjenta (linagliptin), an oral Type 2 diabetes drug made by German drug maker Boehringer Ingelheim and Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly. The drug belongs to the class known as dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors, which also includes Merck’s Januvia (sitagliptin). Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals announced Monday that CVS Caremark and Medco had added Pradaxa (dabigatran etexilate mesylate) capsules to their commercial preferred drug lists, and Medco had added the drug to its Part D drug list.

BI said the phase 2b/3 “LUX-Lung 1” trial of BIBW 2992 (afatinib) showed a fourfold increase in survival among advanced non-small cell lung cancer patients taking the drug versus those taking placebo, whose survival was extended by one month.
