INDIANAPOLIS — Roche on Wednesday announced that it has received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for its Accu-Chek Combo system for insulin pump therapy.

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — Regulators have approved a new blood-glucose monitoring system made by Bayer HealthCare, the company said.

Bayer announced the Food and Drug Administration's approval of Contour Next EZ, which includes a meter and test strip sensors that the company said would improve accuracy.

Bayer said the system is being introduced on a market-by-market basis and will be available in the United States this summer.

MINNEAPOLIS — Medtronic has launched a blood-glucose monitor that allows remote monitoring of blood-glucose levels, the company said.

The Minneapolis-based device maker announced the Food and Drug Administration approval and launch of the mySentry remote glucose monitor, which allows a parent or caregiver to monitor a patient's blood-sugar levels from another room by communicating with the MiniMed Paradigm Real-Time Revel glucose-monitoring system.

CHEVY CHASE, Md. — Patients with diabetes may benefit from a system that provides continuous, real-time glucose readings, according to new clinical practice guidelines released by the Endocrine Society.

While most patients with diabetes measure blood glucose by pricking their skin to get a drop of blood and then measuring it with a glucose meter, continuous glucose monitoring measures glucose in the interstitial fluid, the fluid between cells just under the skin.
