"2012 was definitely an important year for Walgreens," Greg Wasson, Walgreens president and CEO, told shareholders here Wednesday afternoon at the chain's annual shareholder meeting. "We did make some tough choices to protect and solidify … our position for the long term," he said. "[But] our vision is crystal clear to become the first choice for health and daily living in America."

BioScrip reports Q2 revenue jump

BioScrip on Wednesday posted $155.9 million in second-quarter revenue, up 18.5% compared with the prior year.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. — BioScrip on Wednesday posted $155.9 million in second-quarter revenue, up 18.5% compared with the prior year.

"The second-quarter results demonstrate our progress in executing on our strategic plan," BioScrip president and CEO Rick Smith said. "We were able to close on the divestiture of the noncore pharmacy services assets and redeploy a portion of the proceeds towards the acquisition of InfuScience, while delivering sequential improvement on our adjusted EBITDA."

Specialty pharmacy provider BioScrip has appointed Hai Tran as SVP, treasurer and CFO, the company said.

Effective May 14, Tran will replace M.J. Graves, who has served as the company's interim CFO and treasurer since January 2011.

Specialty pharmacy provider BioScrip reported $454 million in sales and $500,000 in profits in third quarter 2011, according to an earnings statement released Tuesday.

The sales figure represented a 2.9% increase over third quarter 2010's $441.2 million, while the profits compared with profits of $2 million during the same period a year ago.

BioScrip announced that COO Rick Smith was named CEO of the company, effective Jan. 1, replacing current CEO Richard Friedman. After stepping down, Friedman will serve as non-executive chairman of BioScrip’s board.
