Personal lubricant sales were similarly down — falling 5.3% to $207.5 million. Only sales of personal massagers were up 5.6%, but on a relatively tiny base of $25.7 million.

There hasn't been a lot of growth in intimacy health lately, with the exception of intimacy enhancement devices, which are up 16.5% to a relatively small $26.2 million base for the 52 weeks ended June 16, according to IRI. But there is plenty of opportunity to drive growth into the category moving forward, especially with the Millennials entering the marketplace.

A number of smaller manufacturers of male contraceptives are launching into the market to challenge the big three: Church & Dwight (72.8% dollar share in the category), Ansell Healthcare (11.6% dollar share) and Reckitt Benckiser (11.5% dollar share).

It’s one factor expected to drive more marketing around the category. Sales of condoms for the 52 weeks ended June 10 reached $295.5 million, up 5.1%, across food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart), according to SymphonyIRI Group.
