FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — Medical supply company BD has introduced a disposable injection pen that it said was designed for drugs requiring frequent, low-volume injections or variable dosing.

The company's BD Medical division announced the introduction of the Vystra, which it will showcase at the 2012 Parenteral Drug Association meeting in Las Vegas.

The company said the pen is designed for ease of use, comfort and reliability, including design features like multi-dosing, simple dose dialing and correction with audible clicks and large and clear dose markings.

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — A division of Becton, Dickinson and Co. has introduced a thin-walled needle for injecting highly viscous drug formulations.

BD Medical announced Wednesday the introduction of the BD Hyflow needle, calling it an alternative to larger needles that could be more painful for patients receiving the highly viscous drugs that are becoming more common in drug pipelines. The Hyflow is a 27-gauge needle designed for use with BD's prefillable syringe systems that increases flow to facilitate use with auto injectors and infusers.

SPARKS, Md. — A global medical technology company has appointed a worldwide director of scientific affairs for its diagnostic systems division.

Becton, Dickinson and Co. said that Patrick Murray has joined its BD Diagnostics segment. In his new role, Murray "will leverage his clinical expertise to best define new product requirements, evaluate new technologies and engage external experts and institutions in BD's innovation process," the company said.

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. Becton, Dickinson and Co. has launched what the company calls the world's smallest insulin pen needle.

The BD Ultra-Fine Nano provides glucose control of typical longer insulin pen needles but with less pain upon injection, BD said.
