Manufacturers are striving to jazz up the bath and body segment with new, spa-inspired fragrances and formulations as sales show a ho-hum attitude among 
beauty shoppers.

According to data provided by SymphonyIRI Group, sales of bath fragrances/bubble bath rose about 3% for the 12 weeks ended Aug. 12 at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart). During that same period, sales of body scrubbers/massagers declined 5%, as sales of liquid body wash also dropped about 5%.

Ninety-four percent said location/convenience, followed by customer service (50%). That's just a taste of what they told us.

When buying bath and shower products, shoppers tend to choose products based mainly on scent and moisturization, according to a Mintel survey. Furthermore, men are increasingly opting for body wash in lieu of bar soap.

According to SymphonyIRI Group data, sales of body wash rose about 7% at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart) for the 52 weeks ended Nov. 27. Taking the top spot, according to the data: Axe body wash for men.

Experiencing triple-digit growth during the 12-week period ended Aug. 7, according to market research firm SymphonyIRI Group, is Dr. Teal’s. In June, the brand announced the introduction of its first foaming liquid epsom salt. Dr. Teal’s Foaming Bath combines the therapeutic benefits of epsom salt with essential oils to relax achy muscles, soothe the senses and provide relief from stress.
