Bartell's, the country's oldest drug chain, announced the opening of what the company called its "next generation" store format, a remodel of an existing store in Seattle's Roosevelt neighborhood. The company developed the new concept in conjunction with Hartmann Group, a consumer consulting firm based in Bellevue, Wash.

The upgrade converts Bartell's processing lab systems from silver halide "wet lab" technology to APEX thermal dry labs.

Regional retail pharmacy chain Bartell Drugs has launched its flu vaccination campaign, the Seattle-based company said Tuesday.

SEATTLE — Regional retail pharmacy chain Bartell Drugs has launched its flu vaccination campaign, the Seattle-based company said Tuesday.

Bartell said it would offer a full schedule of in-store vaccinations for individuals on a walk-in basis and a program servicing area businesses. The "in-the-workplace" vaccination program, now in its fifth year, serves businesses with 25 or more employees.

In addition to regular vaccines, the chain is offering Sanofi Pasteur's Fluzone High-Dose vaccine designed for patients 65 and older.

SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs' is partnering with manufacturers in its eighth annual school supply donation drive, the retail pharmacy chain said Tuesday.

Bartell, which operates 58 stores in Washington state's Puget Sound region — the metropolitan area around Seattle — said it would collect donated school supplies at all of its stores from Friday through Aug. 28. The chain is partnering with suppliers Mead, Avery and Bic to support the drive.

Online news site GeekWire reported that Bartell sponsored a "Free Print Weekend" promotion last week in which people who "liked" the Seattle-based chain's Facebook page received up to 20 free photo prints from its Kodak picture kiosks. Bartell operates 58 stores in the Puget Sound region, the metropolitan area around Seattle.

SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs will kick off its annual food drive at the end of the month, the regional retail pharmacy chain said.

Bartell’s will launch the third annual Stock the Pantry food drive on Monday to benefit Northwest Harvest. The drive lasts through June 12 and is designed to replenish food bank, meal program and school food stocks in Washington’s Puget Sound area, the metropolitan area around Seattle.

SEATTLE — You can say Bartell is getting into the travel business.


Bartell, which had an estimated $353.4 million in sales in 2009, began operating travel clinics eight years ago and now has them at 10 of its 59 stores. They were the brainchild of pharmacists Jolene Kalmbach and Sharon Woodward, who got the idea after noticing that patients’ doctors often lacked necessary expertise in travel medicine and that commercial travel clinics were overbooked.
