The court did rule the health insurance mandate, a key part of the Affordable Care Act, as unconstitutional; however, the government will continue to be able to tax people for not having health insurance.

Under the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid was to be transformed into a program to meet the healthcare needs of the entire nonelderly population with income below 133% of the poverty level.

The American Medicine Chest Challenge said the AMCC Rx Drop app, sponsored by the Generic Pharmaceutical Association, links to the AMCC's directory of local, county and state law enforcement-sponsored permanent collection sites around the country. ARLINGTON, Va. — More than one-third of prescriptions were sent electronically in 2011, the country's largest e-prescribing network said.

Surescripts issued an executive summary of its annual e-prescribing progress report Thursday showing that 570 million prescriptions, or 36% of the total, were sent electronically, a 75% increase over 2010's 326 million. In addition, 317,000 office-based physicians, or 58%, were e-prescribing, compared with 1-in-10 three years ago.

ShelfX announced the availability of the Vending Fridge, which allows customers to download an app to their mobile device and use it to scan a QR code and purchase refrigerated products, such as drinks and food. Scanning the QR code prompts the app to download, allowing the customer to create an account and enter payment information; scanning the code again unlocks the fridge.

RxMedic Systems announced Wednesday the opening of the new headquarters in Wake Forest, N.C., a suburb of Raleigh. The company said expansion of product lines created the need to move into a new location. "With our recent growth, we had just outgrown our previous location," VP David Williams said. "Now, we have much more space for both product development and manufacturing."
