The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new topical drug for treating scars made by Oculus Innovative Sciences, the drug maker said Wednesday.

PETALUMA, Calif. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new topical drug for treating scars made by Oculus Innovative Sciences, the drug maker said Wednesday.

The FDA has approved Microcyn scar-management hydrogel, used to treat scars resulting from burns, surgery and trauma wounds. Oculus and a partnering company, Quinnova Pharmaceuticals, intend to start selling the drug in the first half of next year.

Perrigo Co. announced that it has received final approval from the Food and Drug Administration for its abbreviated new drug applications for fluocinolone acetonide scalp oil, 0.01%, the generic equivalent to Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp Oil, and fluocinolone acetonide topical oil, 0.01%, the generic equivalent to Derma-Smoothe/FS Body Oil.

ALLEGAN, Mich. — Perrigo Co. today announced that it has received final approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its abbreviated new drug applications for fluocinolone acetonide scalp oil, 0.01%, the generic equivalent to Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp Oil, and fluocinolone acetonide topical oil, 0.01%, the generic equivalent to Derma-Smoothe/FS Body Oil. Perrigo expects to begin shipments of both products next month.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a Perrigo generic drug for treating dermatitis, the company said Wednesday.

ALLEGAN, Mich. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a Perrigo generic drug for treating dermatitis, the company said Wednesday.

Perrigo announced the FDA approval of fluticasone propionate lotion in the 0.05% strength. The drug is a generic version of Fougera Pharmaceuticals division PharmaDerm's Cutivate and is used to treat inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of atopic dermatitis in patients ages 1 year and older.

The drug has annual sales of about $19 million, according to Symphony Health Solutions.

The line is comprised of Cetaphil DermaControl foam wash and DermaControl moisturizer SPF 30. It is positioned as the first skin care line of its kind designed to complement an acne regimen for sensitive, acne-prone skin.

Upsher-Smith announced the launch of Trianex (triamcinolone acetonide) ointment, which the company described as a prescription topical corticosteroid that offers the feel of a cream and the strength of an ointment.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — A milk formula for babies made by Gerber Products can reduce the risk of atopic dermatitis, and Gerber has the Food and Drug Administration’s permission to say so.

Gerber said Thursday that its Good Start milk-based formulas were the first and only infant formulas to meet the FDA’s criteria for a qualified health claim. The partially hydrolyzed formula may reduce a baby’s risk of developing atopic dermatitis in the first year.
