The Army and Air Force Exchange Service announced its continued support the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s Healthy Base Initiative through the Exchange’s Operation Be Fit effort.

DALLAS – The Army and Air Force Exchange Service on Monday announced its continued support the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s Healthy Base Initiative through the Exchange’s Operation Be Fit effort.

Operation Be Fit is a program that offers healthier choices to authorized shoppers in the Exchange’s Main Stores, Expresses, vending machines, food courts and school meal program. It also covers athletic apparel and workout equipment in an effort to promote a healthier mind and body.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service on Monday announced that Lt. Gen. Samuel Cox will serve as the chairman of the Exchange board of directors, effective Dec. 2.

DALLAS – The Army & Air Force Exchange Service on Monday announced that Lt. Gen. Samuel Cox will serve as the chairman of the Exchange board of directors, effective Dec. 2.

Lt. Gen. Cox, who was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Air Force deputy chief of staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services on Nov. 5, will replace Lt. Gen. Darrell Jones, who served as chairman of the Exchange board of directors since April 2013 and retired from the Air Force on Nov. 21.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service board of directors on Thursday announced that the Exchange paid a dividend of $224 million in 2012.

DALLAS — The Army & Air Force Exchange Service board of directors on Thursday announced that the Exchange paid a dividend of $224 million in 2012. 

“Historically, roughly two-thirds of Exchange earnings are paid to the services’ morale, welfare and recreation programs with the other third used to build new stores or renovate existing facilities,” stated the Exchange’s senior enlisted advisor Chief Master Sgt. Tony Pearson. “This structure means that authorized customers are, essentially, ‘investors.’”

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, in conjunction with New Balance, is helping wounded service members take a step forward in their recovery process with free athletic shoes through the Wounded Care program.

DALLAS — The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, in conjunction with New Balance, is helping wounded service members take a step forward in their recovery process with free athletic shoes through the Wounded Care program.

Since 2007, the Exchange and New Balance have provided complimentary footwear to service members who have been injured in action. More than 400 free pairs have been provided to Wounded Warriors this year alone.

The Exchange is an omnichannel operator with a website at shopmyexchange.com and more than 2,800 brick and mortar facilities, AAFES noted.

The Defense Department has instructed AAFES to convert the Commanding General’s position to a nonmilitary director/CEO position, marking the first time in the AAFES’s 116-year history that a civilian will lead the organization. COO Mike Howard will take over as acting director/CEO as the organization’s board seeks a permanent replacement.

On April 9, the current budget authorization will expire. At that point, the federal government will potentially institute a mandatory shutdown for “non-essential” personnel.
