PITTSBURGH — A federal court has ruled that a Mylan lawsuit against GlaxoSmithKline over an antidepressant drug can go to trial, Mylan said Tuesday.

Mylan alleges that GlaxoSmithKline breached a contract the two companies had made when it agreed to supply competing drug maker Apotex with paroxetine hydrochloride extended-release tablets, a generic version of Paxil CR. The Third Circuit Court of Appeals' ruling reversed a summary judgment dismissing Mylan's claim.

NEW YORK — Drug maker Otsuka Pharmaceuticals can keep generic versions of its schizophrenia drug off the market, according to published reports.

Bloomberg reported that the Supreme Court upheld a ruling that allowed Otsuka to block Canadian generic drug maker Apotex from marketing a version of the antipsychotic Abilify (aripiprazole), which Otsuka co-markets with Bristol-Myers Squibb.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved two generic versions of a drug to treat HIV, according to agency records.

The FDA approved abacavir sulfate tablets in the 300-mg strength made by Apotex and Aurobindo.

The drug is a generic version of Viiv Healthcare's Ziagen.

PRINCETON, N.J. — Ranbaxy Labs has launched an authorized generic drug for treating dry mouth associated with an autoimmune disorder, the company said Tuesday.

The India-based generic drug maker announced the launch of cevimeline hydrochloride in the 30-mg strength under an agreement with parent company Daiichi Sankyo. The drug is used in patients with Sjogren's syndrome, which affects the moisture-producing glands.

NEW YORK — A generic version of a schizophrenia drug made by Otsuka Holdings and Bristol-Myers Squibb can't be launched until April 2015, according to published reports.

Bloomberg reported that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld the validity of patents covering Abilify (aripiprazole) in the two companies' lawsuit against Teva Pharmaceutical Industries and Apotex.

According to IMS Health, Abilify was the fourth top-selling drug in the United States in 2011, with sales of $5.2 billion.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first generic version of a drug for treating and preventing osteoporosis in women after menopause, the agency said Monday.

The FDA announced the approval of ibandronate tablets in the 150-mg strength made by Apotex, Orchid Healthcare and Mylan Pharmaceuticals. Genentech makes the branded version of the drug.

According to a Bloomberg Businessweek report, U.S. District Court judge Joe Pisano ruled the agreement was valid.

PITTSBURGH A U.S. District Court denied a motion for a preliminary injunction filed by Mylan to prevent Canadian generic drug maker Apotex from making a generic version of an extended-release antidepressant drug, Mylan said Monday.

 

Mylan said the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey erred in its decision, and it intends to appeal.

Generic drug maker Mylan said Tuesday that it had obtained a temporary restraining order from the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey prohibiting Apotex from selling generic versions of the drug Paxil CR (paroxetine hydrochloride), an extended-release formulation of GlaxoSmithKline’s Paxil.
