HYDERABAD, India — Dr. Reddy's has launched a drug for treating acne, the company said Friday.

The Indian generic drug maker announced the launch of Zenatane (isotretinoin) capsules in the 20-mg and 40-mg strengths. The drug is a therapeutically equivalent generic version of Roche's Accutane. The Food and Drug Administration also approved the drug in the 10-mg strength.

Various versions of the drug had sales of about $309 million during the 12-month period that ended in January, according to IMS Health.

PRINCETON, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic antibiotic made by Sandoz, the drug maker said Wednesday.

Sandoz, the generics arm of Swiss drug maker Novartis, announced the approval and launch of clindamycin in 5% dextrose in minibag form, the first generic version of Pfizer's Cleocin Phosphate in Dextrose 5%.

Sales of the branded version were $52.2 million in 2012, according to IMS Health.

PRINCETON, N.J. — Ranbaxy Labs has launched a new treatment for acne under a licensing agreement with a Canadian drug maker.

Ranbaxy announced Monday the launch of Absorbica (isotretinoin) capsules for treating severe recalcitrant nodular acne in patients ages 12 years and older. The drug was launched under a license from Mississauga, Ontario-based Cipher Pharmaceuticals.

Normally, oral isotretinoin must be taken with a high-fat meal due to its chemical properties, but Absorbica is designed to be taken without food.

NEW YORK — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new treatment for acne made by a GlaxoSmithKline subsidiary.

Stiefel announced the approval of Fabior (tazarotene) foam in the 0.1% strength, calling it the only retinoid in a topical foam for treating acne in patients ages 12 years and older.

"Stiefel is dedicated to meeting th needs of patients and dermatologists, and we believe Fabior foam will be an important treatment option for people with moderate-to-severe acne," Stiefel VP North America dermatology Jean-Christophe May said.

PITTSBURGH — Mylan has completed its acquisition of two skin drugs from Valeant Pharmaceuticals, the generic drug maker said Monday.

Mylan announced that it had acquired the regulatory approval applications for generic clindamycin phosphate and benzoyl peroxide gel, a generic version of Valeant's BenzaClin, and a license to manufacture and market fluorouracil cream in the 5% strength, a version of Valeant's Efudex.

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — A drug made by Coria Labs for treating acne now is available in a convenient, ready-to-use pump, the drug maker said Monday.

Coria announced the availability of the Acanya Gel (clindamycin phosphate and benzoyl peroxide) pump in the 1.2%/2.5% strength for acne vulgarism.

The drug is the only Food and Drug Administration-approved once-daily combination of an antibiotic and benzoyl peroxide for treating inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne, the company said.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic antibiotic made by Sagent Pharmaceuticals, Sagent said.

The drug maker announced the approval of clindamycin injection, which the company said was the 12th product approved under its joint venture with Strides Arcolab, under which Strides is responsible for developing and supplying injectable products that Sagent markets in the United States.

The market for injectable clindamycin this year is about $65 million, according to IMS Health.
