The Healthcare Distribution Management Association on Tuesday announced the re-election of David Neu, president of AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp. as chairman of its board of directors. Ted Scherr, president and CEO of Dakota Drug, also was re-elected as vice chairman.

Additionally, HDMA welcomed two members to the Board. Mark Walchirk, president of McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical, was elected to replace Paul Julian, EVP and group president of McKesson Corporation, on the board and executive committee.

AmerisourceBergen and Walgreens on Tuesday officially launched the previously announced 10-year relationship to distribute pharmaceuticals to more than 8,100 Walgreens locations across the country.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — AmerisourceBergen and Walgreens on Tuesday officially launched the previously announced 10-year relationship to distribute pharmaceuticals to more than 8,100 Walgreens locations across the country. With today’s launch, AmerisourceBergen becomes the primary supplier of brand pharmaceutical products across all of Walgreens locations, the wholesaler stated. In the coming months, AmerisourceBergen will assume primary distribution of all generic products to Walgreens.

The partnership was announced during ABDC’s annual independent community pharmacy tradeshow, ThoughtSpot 2013, held July 24 to 27 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. A total of $140,000 was raised for KaBoom!

The board of directors of AmerisourceBergen has authorized a new $750 million share repurchase program.

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. — The board of directors of AmerisourceBergen has authorized a new $750 million share repurchase program.

AmerisourceBergen expects to use the new program to repurchase its outstanding shares of common stock, subject to market conditions. The company has $446.1 million remaining on its prior November 2012 authorization, bringing the total amount authorized for repurchases to $1.2 billion. To date in fiscal year 2013, which ends Sept. 30, the company has spent $401.1 million to repurchase its outstanding shares of common stock.

AmerisourceBergen said it was offering the service under the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Provider Network's Collaborative Practice Coverage program, which allows independent pharmacists to benefit from GNPPN's collaborative practice agreements, which it has in 19 states.

AmerisourceBergen reported $21.9 billion in revenue for its third quarter ended June 30, representing a sales lift of 13.3%.

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. — AmerisourceBergen on Wednesday reported $21.9 billion in revenue for its third quarter ended June 30, representing a sales lift of 13.3%. Amerisource credited the lift to a 16% increase in AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp. revenue and a 5% increase in AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group revenue.

Tris Pharma has hired a former buyer from AmerisourceBergen to head its generic drug business, the company said.

MONMOUTH JUNCTION, N.J. — Tris Pharma has hired a former buyer from AmerisourceBergen to head its generic drug business, the company said.

Tris announced the appointment of Janet Penner as president of the new generic pharmaceuticals business, which will have its own sales, marketing and distribution and will be responsible for bringing drugs to market. So far, the Food and Drug Administration has approved 13 of Tris' generics, including several first-to-market products.

AmerisourceBergen announced that it has completed the divestiture of its Canadian pharmaceutical distribution business, AmerisourceBergen Canada Corp.

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. — AmerisourceBergen on Monday announced that it has completed the divestiture of its Canadian pharmaceutical distribution business, AmerisourceBergen Canada Corporation. As previously announced, the business has been sold to Kohl & Frisch Limited, a Canadian-owned national full-line distributor. 

AmerisourceBergen will retain its Canadian specialty business.

Alliance Boots posted a double-digit adjusted profit gain of 12.7% to $1.2 billion for its year ended March 31. Almost half of that profit is staked by Walgreens with its 45% share of the European pharmaceutical distributing powerhouse.

A couple days later, Alliance Boots along with Walgreens and AmerisourceBergen announced the necessary regulatory clearances on that strategic partnership, cementing the three companies in place as the largest generic pharmaceutical acquisition company in the world. That deal will further enable the company's to realize greater profit margins.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — The deal that paired Walgreens and Alliance Boots with wholesaler AmerisourceBergen has received the required regulatory clearances, the companies announced Friday. 

The regulatory clearances permit both Walgreens and Alliance Boots the purchase of up to 7% of the fully diluted equity of AmerisourceBergen in the open market, and the exercise of two warrants for 16% in the aggregate of the fully diluted equity of AmerisourceBergen in 2016 and 2017.

Greenberg fills the vacancy created by Charles Cotros’s retirement from the board in February 2013. Greenberg also joined the audit and corporate responsibility committee and finance committee of the board. AmerisourceBergen's board of directors is currently comprised of 10 directors.

AmerisourceBergen announced that it has completed the previously announced divestiture of its contract packaging business, AndersonBrecon, to an entity formed by affiliates of an investor group led by Frazier Healthcare VI.

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. — AmerisourceBergen on Monday announced that it has completed the previously announced divestiture of its contract packaging business, AndersonBrecon, to an entity formed by affiliates of an investor group led by Frazier Healthcare VI.  

The purchase price for the transaction totaled $308 million in cash, subject to customary adjustments for, among other things, the working capital of the business. The investor group includes affiliates of Greenspring Associates, QIC Global Private Equity and Thomas McNerney & Partners.

Cardinal Health announced the renewal of its pharmaceutical distribution agreement with CVS Caremark to supply pharmaceuticals to the company’s retail pharmacies and distribution centers, as McKesson, which generally serves the PBM side of the business, also announced the renewal of its current distribution agreement with the pharmacy retailer.

The renewal of the agreements was not only critical for both companies but, as Adam Fein, president of Pembroke Consulting and CEO of Drug Channels Institute, wrote in his blog “CVS Caremark Renews with Cardinal and McKesson,” it also “demonstrates wholesalers' value in the brand-name pharmacy supply chain.”

It's official. During its most recent quarterly conference call with analysts, CVS Caremark revealed what many had anticipated: Its acquisition of privately held Brazilian drug store chain Drogaria Onofre was complete.

It's official. During its most recent quarterly conference call with analysts, CVS Caremark revealed what many had anticipated: Its acquisition of privately held Brazilian drug store chain Drogaria Onofre was complete.

The move is not financially material to CVS Caremark, but it does mark its first foray into the international drug store space. The 44-store chain is the eighth-largest drug store chain in Brazil and, according to published reports, posted gross revenue of R$1.2 billion (Brazilian reals) in 2011.
