WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association is seeking nominations for its annual practitioner and scientific awards and honors, the organization said Wednesday.

The APhA said it would present the winners at the annual APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in New Orleans next March. The APhA Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management administers the practitioner awards and honors, while the APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science administers the scientific awards and honors. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 15.

WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association is marking Older Americans Month by urging seniors to increase their knowledge about medications and wellness by talking to their pharmacists, the group said Monday.

WASHINGTON — Pharmacists in Utah and Ohio have won the 2011 Bowl of Hygeia awards from the American Pharmacists Association Foundation and the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations, the two organizations announced.

The APhA Foundation and NASPA announced that the Utah Pharmacists Association had given the award to Kathy Goodfellow, owner of Mountain View Pharmacy in Bountiful, Utah, and that the Ohio Pharmacists Association had given it to Mark Dominik of St. Mary’s, Ohio.

SEATTLE — The American Pharmacists Association has teamed up with the Cardinal Health Foundation to fight against prescription drug abuse through several initiatives.

With funding support from the Cardinal Health Foundation, APhA members will take an active role in preventing the abuse and misuse of prescription medications, including the following initiatives:

WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association Foundation announced Monday the selection of 25 companies, community health departments and other organizations — collectively known as “communities” — that will take part in the foundation’s initiative to improve care for people disproportionately affected by diabetes across the United States.

WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association is looking for a new CFO to replace Roger Browning, who will retire, the group said Tuesday.

Browning has worked in senior financial executive positions for the APhA since 1995, serving as SVP finance and CFO since 2007. Before working for the APhA, he was VP finance at the International Franchise Association.

WASHINGTON — The American Pharmacists Association Foundation is looking for a new executive director, the organization said.

The APhA Foundation said it would post a complete description of the position and qualifications on the foundation’s website by Wednesday. The foundation will accept applications until March 10 and make a decision by July.

WASHINGTON — Addressing the need for patients to follow good health practices during cough-cold-flu season, the American Pharmacists Association is encouraging consumers to consult with their local pharmacist on ways to maintain well-being.

APhA said that a pharmacist can help patients with such things as:

• Getting a flu shot — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend all persons ages 6 months or older receive a flu vaccine. The vaccine is available throughout the flu season, or as long as supply lasts;

WASHINGTON — The APhA Foundation said Tuesday that it has re-elected two prominent pharmacy leaders to its board of directors. Dennis Helling and Eugene Lutz will be officially installed at the American Pharmacist Association’s 2011 Annual Meeting in Seattle on March 25 to 28.

WASHINGTON — The oldest national organization of pharmacists is making a New Year’s push to encourage Americans to clear out their old and expired medicines.

WASHINGTON — Moving a step closer to filling a leadership void, the American Pharmacists Association Foundation said Monday it has tapped The Bernard Consulting Group, an executive search firm, to assist with the search for the next executive director and CEO of the organization.
