The need for diabetes educators will rise sharply between now and 2025 as the diabetes epidemic worsens, according to a new study by the American Association of Diabetes Educators.

CHICAGO — The need for diabetes educators will rise sharply between now and 2025 as the diabetes epidemic worsens, according to a new study by the American Association of Diabetes Educators.

The study, conducted by Dobson DaVanzo & Associates, found that the need would increase by at least 60% over the next 14 years, with new career opportunities likely to emerge as private insurers and Medicare recognize the role the educators play.

CHICAGO — The American Association of Diabetes Educators supported new legislation that was passed in the state of Kentucky that required licensure for all diabetes educators.

The licensing requirement, AADE said, will demonstrate and communicate a standard of care and ensure that people have an appropriate comfort level and respect for the discipline.

The bill was signed by Kentucky state governor Steve Beshear on Wednesday.

The Diabetes Accreditation Standards-Practical Applications program will be offered four times this year, the first one being held at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego Jan. 21 to 23, the groups said.
