Underwood will represent the full range of Almay products, including the newest 2014 launches. She will appear in global, multimedia campaigns spanning television, print, in-store, digital and social platforms. Underwood’s first campaign will break this week.

NEW YORK — Beauty company Revlon announced on Wednesday that net sales were essentially flat during the second quarter due, in part, to continued softness in its Almay brand.

During its conference call with analysts Wednesday morning, the company also announced that Bob Kretzman, chief administrative officer, will retire at the end of September, following a 25-year career at Revlon. Kretzman will join Revlon's board of directors, effective Oct. 1.

Events will start Sunday and run for 13 days afterward, and will include blood-glucose testing, glucose-meter exchange and education, cholesterol testing, bone-density screenings, blood-pressure testing and others. In addition, there will be free "mini makeover" demonstrations and hair styling tips by Conair and product samplings ranging from cosmetics to supplements.

NEW YORK — Beauty company Revlon posted a net loss for the third quarter due to charges, as sales rose 2.9% thanks to higher net sales of Revlon color cosmetics and the inclusion of net sales of Pure Ice.

Net sales for the quarter totaled $347 million, up $9.8 million, or 2.9%, compared with the year-ago period. Excluding unfavorable foreign currency fluctuations, net sales rose 4.8%.

In the United States, net sales totaled $203.9 million, up 4.6% when compared with $194.9 million in the year-ago period.

Total net sales rose 1.7% to $357.1 million, fueled by higher sales of Revlon and Almay color cosmetics and Revlon ColorSilk hair color. Excluding foreign currency fluctuations of $9 million, net sales increased 4.2%.

NEW YORK Revlon has hired Julia Goldin as SVP and global chief marketing officer, overseeing all marketing activities for its portfolio of brands, including Revlon, Almay Revlon ColorSilk, Revlon beauty tools and Mitchum.

Goldin, who has more than 20 years of experience within the consumer packaged goods industry, most recently served as SVP and deputy chief marketing officer of Coca-Cola Japan, where she oversaw the company's coffee business. Prior to that, she led Coca-Cola's marketing in the United Kingdom and later in northwest Europe.
