In collaboration with the National Minority AIDS Council, Walgreens is furthering its commitment to improve HIV treatment outcomes for African Americans living with HIV by deepening pharmacists’ training and expanding access to the pneumococcal vaccination specifically indicated for persons living with HIV as incidents of flu and pneumonia rise, the retailer announced Tuesday.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Pharmacists in Indiana want an active consultation role when customers purchase over-the-counter HIV tests, according to a new study.

Researchers at Indiana University, Butler University and the Rural Center for AIDS/STD Prevention, lead by center co-director Beth Meyerson, said that community pharmacists have a unique opportunity to consult with customers about HIV treatment when selling OTC HIV tests. Engaged and supportive pharmacists, the researchers said, could help increase the number of those who test for HIV and who are linked to treatment.

LOS ANGELES — The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is rebranding a chain of specialty pharmacies it recently bought.

The AHF, which bought MOMS Pharmacy in August 2012, said it would rebrand the chain as AHF Pharmacy. MOMS is focused exclusively on providing medications and support services to people living with HIV and AIDS. The name change will be effective immediately, but the entire rebranding could take several months due to state pharmacy regulations and the need to replace signage, prescription labeling and other fixtures.
