Walgreens celebrated the grand opening of its 7,000th store Thursday, Oct. 1, in Brooklyn, on the edge of New York City's iconic Coney Island neighborhood. Local officials, including borough president Marty Markowitz and others, were on hand to welcome the retailer to the neighborhood during a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. Charles R. "Cork" Walgreen III, grandson of the company's founder and former chairman of the board, also was in attendance to help mark the auspicious occasion. As part of the grand opening, the AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour offered free health screenings and flu shot vouchers to uninsured adults.
