Wegmans develops donation program, aids relief with $100,000 donation
ROCHESTER, N.Y. Wegmans stores on Thursday had begun accepting customer donations at checkout to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. The program will run through Jan. 23, the grocer stated.
Customers may donate any amount, and their donations will go to the American Red Cross International Response Fund Haiti Relief which provides funding for sending relief supplies, mobilizing relief workers, and providing financial resources.
“This is a tragic event that calls for everyone to pitch in and help,” stated Wegmans CEO Danny Wegman. “We know that some of our employees have family or friends in Haiti, and we’re certain our customers do, as well.”
The Wegman Family Charitable Foundation has also announced a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross International Response Fund Haiti Relief.
