Taro gets go-ahead for epilepsy drug

HAWTHORNE, N.Y. The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic epilepsy drug made by Taro Pharmaceutical Industries, the Israeli generic drug maker announced Tuesday.

Taro announced the FDA approval of levetiracetam tablets in the 250-mg, 500-mg, 750-mg and 1,000-mg strengths.

The tablets are a generic version of UCB’s Keppra. Branded and generic versions of levetiracetam tablets had sales of more than $700 million in 2009, according to industry sources.
