Sagent recalls lots of generic antibiotic
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. Generic drug maker Sagent Pharmaceuticals is recalling all its lots of an injectable antibiotic due to nonsterility in two lots, Sagent said Monday.
Sagent announced the voluntary nationwide recall of 500 mg-per-100 milliliter doses of metronidazole that were distributed to wholesalers, distributors and hospitals between February and May.
Sagent said the nonsterility of the two lots could lead to potentially fatal infections, though the company has not received reports of any harmful reactions. Sagent said it was conducting the recall with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration.
